A Very Slow Art Dump Debrief, With Notes On The Future
2 years ago
Welp, after more than 40 days straight of uploading two pics a day, it's finally done. There were more pics that I could have posted(I might post them in the future), but for now all the main art is done; all that's left is to upload avatars, badges and a couple of alternate arts I missed, all of which will be posted to Scraps. Also I need to go back and modernize all the descriptions of my old old submissions to match the format I've been using. From here on out, pretty much everything posted will be in chronological order because I'm not going to build up a hoard of unposted art like this ever again.
Positive things from doing this:
• All the art I had lost or forgotten about! There were so many pieces that I rediscovered randomly, often while looking for other art. I had intended to finish posting art days ago, but I kept finding art that I hadn't accounted for that kept extending the completion time.
• Getting folders on FA to categorize all my characters, fetishes, and forms in one place. Particularly the overall spread of my art. I was honestly surprised that I had so much art of my main form, I really only remember the post-TF pics and sphinx commissions; everything else surprised me with it's quantity.
• • It is really easy to keep creating folders for additional categories and I had to stop myself from doing it more. As it is right now, the list of folders and subfolders is enough to take up my entire phone's screen.
• It gave me something to do and I met a few new people who liked the kind of art I got, and those who already liked the kind of art I commission got even more(Looking at you, sphinx lovers).
Negative things:
• Hunting down art for my personal folder on my computer was a truly miserable experience I will work to never repeat in the future. It took multiple days to track down not only the art in all my emails(Multiple email accounts, artists not using the same names everywhere - especially email), Twitter DMs, Telegram DMs, and Notes here on FA, to say nothing of having to sometimes reach out to artists for the highest quality versions if my searching couldn't find it and I gave up, usually an hour after starting my search for it.
• Uploading was sometimes tedious, with some pieces taking upwards of 15 minutes each, and it sometimes dipped into 20 minutes if there were a lot of alt versions.
• Seeing all my main form art made me curious about it since it had been so long since I had gotten the reference for it. Now that I've looked at it closely and compared with RL tigers, there are a ton of small detail differences from that and actual tigers, either in anatomy, coloring, or striping that all need fixed. Particularly, I never noticed how the stripes in my hair were handled by artists before this, and THAT bugs me enough that it needs to be fixed ASAP.
What am I going to do now that I'm done uploading it all? Obviously I'll be getting more commissions and posting them here ASAP, but aside from that, I'm 100% going to start writing stories that I post here this time. It's kind of unfortunate that all the art I have commissioned and will commission will be broken up by honestly pretty ugly thumbnails for writing, but what can you do? Eh, maybe create yet more folders. I'm beginning to see why more folders is an FA+ perk. I don't know when I'll be posting stories as I still need to write them. For now I'll say that the earliest you can expect to see any writing in my gallery is next year, but next year is a long time. Here's hoping it's sooner rather than later.
