ive picked at it off an on the last few years but I never know exactly what to do on it, since its been around so long there's like, a lot haha. I need to find a modern newbie guide or something. I do love the pet designs, dated as they are
I started playing Neopets when I was 4 after a McDonalds toy promotion with Neopets plushies xD I've been involved on and off since. If you DM me your Neo UN, I'll Neofriend you :3c
I used to be hardcore into VPS but never really neopets! or subeta which was the other big one. Sadly most of those sites are gone ): I was on chibipaws for years, played a bit of verpets, powerpets, aywas, and more recently kaylune (that one had so, so much potential... i did item art for it). I pick at goatlings off and on still.
I liked Aywas for a bit but I found the owner to have this weird air of superiority somehow, so I didn't end up sticking with it too much. I hadn't heard of Kaylune til you mentioned it, sad to hear it went the way of many others. :'( If only we could get one with real staying power. Neopets has always been in disarray since the first time they sold it off and Subeta has a small handful of returning players. Enough to get by but not enough to make certain activities a challenge cuz the user pool is so small.
Omg I forgot how problematic Aywas was, you’re right that the owner was weird. There was a lot of problems with players paying real money for custom pet colours iirc? It quickly became a popularity “look at me I have money” thing, and the actual gameplay got cast aside,I remember now that’s why I stopped playing lol. It’s wild to think back on.
Kaylune was good cause the mods and staff actually implemented role playing story lines, there was a couple visual novel style plots even. Lots of effort put into having unique world events instead of just generic Christian holidays. So the world building was there. I think it went downhill cause it was around the time mobile gaming/browsing really started becoming the norm, and it didn’t adapt
