As someone who admits to being VERY 'Cooking deficient' I salute you and your efforts!

(I sorta lie. I CAN cook, but am no 'Chef,' not by a long shot!)

I, also, too can "cook", if I have a recipe and I know all the terminology. However, I wouldn't foist my "cooking" on anyone who doesn't have good health insurance. LOL.

Going to my sister and brother-in-law's place. I love it; I don't have to cook, just bring some raw veggies (crudités) and dips. At least she's not a vegetarian, anymore...

Well, since my mom died back in April, I'm the only one left that I associate with on a regular basis. (I have a cousin and his wife who live locally, but I rarely see them.) All my other relatives live at least 1.5 hours away, and nobody's invited me to dinner. So, I have to take a chance and trust that my reading ability will translate into a decent meal. A 3 lb. turkey breast, a few prepared-for-cooking dishes along with a dessert of blueberry cobbler and ice cream should make for a decent, enjoyable dinner. It might even give me the wherewithal to consider actually cooking once a week rather than depending on my microwave for all of my meals. LOL.

Dad's idea (probably inherited from his father) was that a child tall enough to see the top of the stove should learn to cook. My oldest brother took it seriously; he was trained as a chef and actually did it professionally for almost a year. I used to love to go to his place for dinners until the psycho bitch he lives with went off her meds. My middle brother can cook but he seldom cooks for more than himself (and I usually cook for both of us). Our baby sister (62, now) was a poor cook and the vegetarian thing got old, fast. Rapidly approaching 40, she learned that veggies are missing key nutrients and conception was a non starter. She started eating meat again (which delighted her husband no end) and well, their daughter is now 25.

And yet, vegetarians will tell you they're more healthy than us omnivores. I told a friend of mine a little joke yesterday. I said, "Do you know what I call vegans?"
She said, "What?"
"Prey."
She actually got a good laugh out of it.

"Thank you, Karen." I'm constantly having one vegan after another tell me of the evils and health hazards of eating meat. Every one of them has reeked so bad of cigarette smoke (one of my chronic asthma triggers) that I started choking.

Ah, you smelll that? That's the smell of victory. I love the smell of nap- er, Thanksgiving in the morning.

Thanks. I definitely need all that I can get. Luck, I mean. I plan on starting my dinner around 12-ish. I've got to heat (not cook, thank God) my turkey, and one other oven dish. I've got three I can cook in the microwave so it shouldn't take too long to prepare my dinner.
