That and I think in itself to try and capture a more 'realistic' story; a mental change or some kind of chip in their head that makes them perceive the world/themself as if the TF happened. While of course the tf actually happening is more fun usually, I think a lot of folks are looking to immerse themselves in the role of the protag (hence why so many TFs I see on FA feature a 20-something male as the base, heh). So maybe the audience might enjoy the angle of 'this could actually happen to me in 10 or 20 years'. Sorry, just idle postulating!
