I've been on FA for 18 years now!
I can use my FurAffinity as an ID card now. :3 That's how long I've been on here as of December 10th!
(My DeviantArt account is turning 21 next year.)
A lot of us joined early on around the same time in 2005, and a chunk of us are still around!
FA began in January 2005. At the time, everyone used DeviantArt, and competition like SheezyArt also started sprouting up. Y!Gallery was a fun spot for a bit for the gays (I was oblivious and told everyone there's a cool website they can post on, the only catch was you could only post guys there and I didn't quite see the big deal!)
Anyway, fun nostalgia aside, I'm kinda glad to still be here. Even if over the years it keeps getting more and more limited as far as what art they allow. A lot of friends have left, but even with how things are turning out here, I'm doing my best to be safe and just appreciate what I can post and share.
Also, I've been "Owlnard" for 2 years as of today too! Probably can't pull off the art I want to for that tonight. But convenient it's also at this time, so I can remember both! After 2 years, I'm glad I can balance being both an owl and a hamster. I love-love-love being birdy, and I still love being a hamster too, so I'm glad rather than changing, I can still have fun being both. nvn
Next year (I probably say this every year) I want to get back to Boxer Beats (and Animal Fantasy Friends.) That means as few commissions and trades as possible. I've considered trying to do a fun Patreon thing somehow, but... that website is also I guess not great about NSFW art. But, it'll be nice to be free of bigger projects, or closer to finishing them if I can. We'll find out!
Feel free to say hi in the comments if you want. nvn When I have my winter vacation, I want to get back to replying to all the comments in the art I made this year... hopefully... we'll see! nvn; Toodle-hoo for now~!

FA+

'w'! Also, eee! I hope you have a wonderful and safe vacation! *all the hugs!* 'w'!
*hugs*
I'm only guessing, but I think close to a third of the users here today weren't even born yet, when either of us joined!
Back before FA, I got most of my furry art from places like SCFA, VCL, and newsgroups like alt.binaries.pictures,furry.erotica and alt.binaries.pictures,furry.
And yeah. D: Haha I was almost gonna say, "I hope most the users on FA are at least as old..." but uh, a lot of us probably joined a bit earlier than we should have. >w>
Haha I've only heard of VCL between those! It would have been fun being into furry earlier just to see what weird little websites were around. :3
VCL was Velan Central Library, sometimes called, Vixen Controlled Library. It was active from 1999 until 2005.
The newsgroups started in 1986 when the NNTP protocol was formed. They are still around today. But, most of the hobby, art, kink, lifestyle, and non-academic type groups are so infested with spam and malware that they are no longer used for their intended purpose.
We had SheezyArt from 2003 until around 2013.
Deviant Art began around 2000, and is still in use. It is not a furry specific site though. Furry content might be about one percent of all the art there.
SoFurry started in 2009, and is still in use.
Weasyl started around 2013, and is still used. But, any time I've ever looked, there appears to be almost no activity.
e621 started in 2007, and is still active. You can't have anything resembling a profile there, and I don't think there's the concept of following someone there to be notified when they post something. It's good for finding art in general, but not for watching or following what any specific artist makes.
Inkbunny started in 2010, and is still very active.
It looks like Fur Affinity is the longest continuously active furry art web site, as it started in 2005. Deviant art would be the longest, but such a low percent of the art there is furry themed, that it can hardly be imagined as a furry art site.
Almost all websites back then were personal hobby, math, science or kink sites. There were pretty much no corporate sites yet, and any sort of ads on the web was an extremely rare thing. A couple years later, art sites, shopping sites, corporate sites and advertising were starting to become common. Then, as families and children started to get access to the net for the first time, a major effort to sanitize the net started - with little success at first. It's amazing, the extreme kinks that would come up in searches in the mid '90s, and almost nothing was passworded and age locked. It's not like kids were all over the net at the time, so you'd see almost everything, both legal and not, right out in the open. The net was a very different place more than 25 years ago.
My account is maybe like.... 10 years now? Which I find pretty impressive too. Even if I've nuked my gallery a few times (anxiety does that...) I'm happy to be here regardless cuz there really aren't a lot of art sites around anymore.
Love seeing your history though! You're doing so great and your projects are always fun. Take it easy, we love ya ❤
I wish I could be the kind of person I am now, but with everything being as easy as it was in 2008. =3=
I just had my fifth anniversary last month.
Congrats!
PS
I'd love to see more of Boxer Beats. It's a classic now. <3 Also, any other series that you will want to work on too. Thanks again Oxy!
