Thoughts after this week
Hello, I have some thoughts after the events in the U.S. this week. It's mostly about the furry community and right-wing furries.
My goal is to always be supportive of the furry community, or LGBT+ furry community!
And the main thing I want to add is, right-wing furries are really... not part of our community.
That isn't controversial to say anymore, I think. It's actually pretty factual if you know what a community is... owo
Right-wing furries might think, "But I'm still part of the community! I'm a furry!"
Anyone can be a furry... but the furry community is a separate thing.
The furry community is full of LGBT+ people, and lots of other minority groups we love and embrace. We're all different, weird, and have supported each other over the years.
I've seen so many sad friends this week, and people who feel unsafe and worried about the future.
Furries that voted for the person, or even the side of the political spectrum, that makes the majority of us worry about our well-being... they aren't part of our community. owo
Being part of our community means being supportive of each other, and helping each other. Our goal is to just keep enjoying furry animals, and keeping our community alive and well!
Voting for or being on the side of people who don't like other races, genders, sexualities, etc... that's very opposite of what the furry community is. There's no excuse or separation for that side of politics from those actions.
Politics aren't just an opinion anymore. The right-wing is full of leaders who've openly said plenty of sexist, racist, and transphobic remarks, in the last few weeks, months, and years. That's just who they are.
I mean, anyone right-wing could go into a big furry discord server and say "I voted for him" and, just watch how people will not like them anymore. owo It would single them out, people would think they're okay with all the discrimination associated with that side, because uh, they are and that's a problem. owo
They really can't be friends with people in the furry community if they're honest and say, "I voted/support the people who are targeting trans people and non-white people." It's clearly, 100% not okay to keep people around who think and feel that way.
They might make excuses like, "I only like some of the harmless right-wing politics!" Okay so, guns and taxes politics are more important to them than people? Well, if the community isn't more important to them, they shouldn't be important to us.
It is actually, really okay to drop your right-wing friends.
I don't like to be divisive, and actually there's a way people don't have to be divided I'll mention below! But... it's naïve to keep those people around or see them as part of the community, if after all these years, they're okay with supporting people who will target our mostly LGBT+ community, or act apathetic about it.
I want to make a note about family, real world people, etc.
In the furry social sphere, this stuff's a bit more obvious and easy. We grasp it better. You can pick and choose online friends. That's mostly what I'm talking about here.
It can't really be helped having right-wing family, or work/school associates, etc. It's best to make up your own mind there how you feel, and what's smart and safe to do. They're kind of a different group, and I mostly want to focus on the furry community here.
There is a way not to split from furries or feel divided and alone.
(Because yes, gay conservatives are always said to be lonely, they're an odd contradiction that disregard their own kind, just like being a conservative furry in a mostly LGBT+ community.)
If you don't want to feel separated from the rest of the furry community, you should work on being open and supportive towards the people in it. (:
If you're helping people who make life worse for furries... of course no one will like that.
So if right-wing furries don't want to feel like they have to live some silent, shameful, dishonest life where they pretend they're not conservative... all you have to do is figure out how to care about the community. :3
Furries know what it's like to be closeted in real life. B3 Must be weird to be closeted about being furry IRL, but then closeted about being conservative online. Like... that's a small lonely world there. owo;
Caring about people has always been a big struggle for conservatives. It's a struggle that all people have too.
But if you show your community you care and work towards being empathetic and understanding, you won't be surprised why we don't like groups that want to harm people in it. :3 It sounds obvious!
It is tough if you naturally don't care about people, and have to work towards caring about them... but, really, if you care more about taxes than people, you're greedy and that's why people don't like you. owo
If you care more about guns than LGBT+ rights, and you don't care about all the shootings that happen in the states and all the lives lost and why people are upset and don't like people like that... it's because you don't know how to care about anyone but yourself. :3 It's selfish. It can change though.
Maybe the only way greedy selfish people will try and change themselves is when they start realizing they don't have the furry community they thought they had. owo
We're concerned for each other and care about the well-being of our friends. Anyone too busy celebrating someone that will discriminate against the rest of us, is not part of our community. They must be a really lonely furry that have to cling to other hateful right-wing furries. owo;
So! Please don't worry about dropping right-wing furry friends if you need to. They don't care about us, and they don't care about your friends. owo
Really, imaging bringing a right-wing furry to your discord server or telegram group, and being open about it. "Here's my friend, they voted for someone who wants to remove your rights" ...Don't expect anyone to be happy to interact with them. :3 Or happy that you're so okay with them.
Remember, they can change and become part of the community if they learn to care about the community and about other people. :3
But most of them just really can't. After all these years, they still can't. They haven't, they don't get the message, most of us have tried to help, and I'm just telling you... it rarely ever happens.
If you have a friend like that, it's probably hopeless. If it they do change, they'll do it themselves, it won't suddenly be now if you try.
That's probably why they hate the idea of changing their minds to be like us. I still think people should be different and varied and we're all unique and interesting! I just don't want to be friends with people who are okay with hurting my friends. :3
It's important for the furry community to stay strong together, and this is part of it.
Stay close to the good people around you, and maybe it's finally time to drop some of the people who will never change or understand or care. owo
And maybe it's time for right-wingers to stop living a secret quiet life in the fandom, learn the hard way, get kicked from their social groups, and realize they don't get to enjoy the benefit of being around people they harm.
That all sounds pretty obvious and fair, so... I think it's okay to say. owo
Just needed to get all that off my chest. nwn My place in the fandom is being supportive and making positive art. I hope people can use my art to feel happy, especially when they need a break from the real world. I want to create a positive space for the furry community. :3
Good luck to everyone making it through a tough week! And tough times ahead. It breaks my heart seeing furries I care about so sad and worried, but I'll do my part to make the world seem less scary with fun positive art. nwn
Comments won't be open, no way it won't lead to arguments. If for some reason someone reads it all and makes some negative journal in response, they're probably just one of those right-wingers to avoid, that care more about losing their furry community and friends than they care about supporting the people in it. owo Don't mind them. :3
If anyone on the right-wing side just wants to argue, I don't do that. Not interested.
But if other nice people just need someone to talk to for support, I'm pretty busy and slow, but I want to offer it to folks that need it. :3 Just don't expect a ton!
If my friends think I said anything odd here, they can always let me know. nwn I pick my words carefully and think this is pretty solid, and good friends know we don't mean any harm even if we don't do things perfectly. :3
Another artist with a long opinion journal... but mine is out of love and support, at least. :3 I hope everyone understands well enough. Here's to keeping the furry community a safe, positive, and caring space. nwn
