2023, In Retrospect
Hey, everyone!
I hope you all had a great holiday season. i know I did, what with the constant stress, crazy difficult finals, and overall mental health crises!
Seriously, though. Even with all that crap happening, I'm still glad to be a part of this fandom, and I'm even more glad that all of you read my silliness. So, let's talk about 2023 for a second, and discuss my plans for '24.
So, I started this year with a few goals: write every day, and go back to school to start my really difficult chemistry degree. I managed to get one of those done (that being the school one), but the writing fell by the wayside a bit, even if I did manage to get over my notorious perfectionism. That stuff was (and is, to a certain extent) super toxic, and prevented me from ever sticking to an idea or piece of writing for very long. I literally hated everything I wrote, and writing became a stressful chore that I could just ignore in favor of other things. Still, in spite of that, I hit a new record for the number of Lupine Lemons chapters I put out this year, totaling at (I think) 3 or 4! Ideally, it should have been way more than that, but we'll save that for the 2024 section.
So the year went on, and after a while, I found myself back in school. It was a whole lot harder than I expected, and so my writing had to take a backseat. Like, a super backseat. I realized at the end of the semester that i hadn't written anything in months, so not only was I dealing with stress from that, but now I had the guilt over not writing starting to pile up as well. I did attempt a private project or two, but those never really came to any fruition either, and you'll probably never see them due to the presence of some crazy kinks that I'm pretty sure only make sense to me.
Long story short, I neglected my writing in the last quarter of this year, and I apologize for that. As of writing this, I'm working on two Lupine Lemons chapters (including a Christmas-related story that, due to the speed at which I write, will have to wait for Christmas In July or whenever it becomes topical again. If you want to see it, just let me know, and I'll put it up when it's done. Otherwise, I'll wait for a more festive time), as well as the next real chapter. I was supposed to get those out by the end of the year, but the Christmas story took up way too much time, and still isn't done yet due to constant revisions and IRL junk involving my ongoing mental collapse.
So, with that crap out of the way, let's talk 2024. I know you're not supposed to say "next year will be my year", but I'm going to say it anyway. I did some soul-searching recently, and realized that my #1 issue is consistency. I like to think I do good work in everything I finish, but it just isn't consistent or regular enough, and in the online world, consistency is everything. Thinking about my favorite creators, they all seem to have schedules and regular upload dates, so I think I'll give that a try.
For 2024, I'm going to challenge myself this way: For the whole year, I'll be putting out a story (either a Lupine Lemons chapter, or some other thing) at the end of every single month. That way, you guys get regular updates from me, and I get to use a consistent writing schedule to overcome my perfectionism by brute force. That's my decision, and i think it's a good one. I'm tired of leaving you guys in the dark for so long between updates, so I won't be doing that anymore.
So, that's that. 2024 will be my Year Of Consistency, and you'll be getting regular, monthly uploads all year long. I'll do my best not to miss a beat on that, and I hope you all enjoy my future work as much as I do making it. And yes, I'm currently working on seeing writing as a fun thing again, and a year of it being scary. It's a work in progress, but every story was a rough draft at some point, right?
Thanks so much for every read and favorite and all that, it all means the world to me.
Thanks for reading, Lavender.
