2023
2023 was a quiet enough year.
I only attended three furry events - FNNY in Dublin, Scotiacon in Glasgow, and ConFuzzled in Birmingham. All were quite fun, the only dark shadow being a group of teens hurling abuse and rocks at fursuiters on the last day of ConFuzzled. I was staying in an overflow hotel, only a few mins walk from the main, but I was quite on edge going back & forth on that last day. Luckily, the teens never approached me.
I decided to retire Peaches after 12 years and ConFuzzled was her final con. Luckily, she got some nice photos at the hoofer meet there. She’ll probably still appear from time to time in photos taken at home but she’s no longer in good enough shape for bringing overseas. Can’t say she didn’t have a good run as she’s been to many, many cons in both Europe and the US. I still have my bunny and kangaroo.
My fursuiting time has decreased somewhat, anyway. I used to suit 3 or 4 hours per day at cons a decade ago, I don’t really go for much longer than an hour these days. Have to admit my enthusiasm for stomping around and sweating buckets inside a brightly coloured carpet has waned somewhat. I love hugging and photographing fursuits but the effort of performing in one myself has lost some appeal. I’m in my late 40s now, so I’ll never have the same energy as all those 20something suiters.
As for non furry trips, I cycled the Dingle peninsula in September, covering about 200km over four days. That was a fun trip if very tiring.
Rest of the year was pretty uneventful, aside from a change of work location in June ( same job, just different part of the city ).
Here’s to 2024.
