New Year
I don't use journals here much, which should be obvious to everybody considering how long the last one has been up...
Anyhow, most of last year was kind of a full scale 'scrambling out of quicksand' year for me, with a whole lot of mess going on (not much particularly major on its own, but just a constant stream of little things) and the plan this year is to try to get a little more of the background work done so I don't feel like I've got this massive pile of 'things that need to be done' ready to fall over on me at any moment.
Mostly what this means is that I may be a little less active on the Thursday Prompt as I focus more on completing some of the writing that has been plotted out already, rather than letting my brain take off with even more new story ideas. Not that I have too much hope of actually keeping my brain from jumping off the cliff on that, I'll just be trying to focus more on ongoing stuff. And, of course, if any of the Thursday Prompt ideas play into what I was already doing anyway, that's not a new thing for me...
Amongst other things, I really want to actually get Huntress done sometime in the next few months and bounce it off a couple of pre-readers before seeing if anybody is interested in publishing it. The main story was actually done... checks ... four years ago. Gah. But having written the story serially in FNC over a few years, it has internal inconsistencies, and quite frankly I'm a better writer now than when I started, and have a much better idea of where I'm going with this. When I started writing this I had the basic idea of how it would end. By the time I got to the climactic scene I realized I'd made the antagonist too smart for the original plotline and had to completely rewrite how it was going to end.
Not to mention that, honestly, I haven't really been reading much the last couple of years, not even of those people I'm actively following. I need to take at least a little time to do that as well.
But first, the cleanup so I don't feel like I'm living under a tower of stuff that's going to fall over on me any minute now...

I've almost finished getting my bedroom and finished cleaning out the hallway on the third floor connecting my two rooms entirely into order; have tossed out an enormous amount of garbage and recycling; a friend of my brother's has offered to take any and all working but no longer needed electronics off my hands for part salvage, anything non-tech that I don't need but is worth someone else's use is going to the thrift store and I've gotten rid of the horrible mess of octopus plugs going around my room, replaced with three tested, quality power bars, one for my computer, one for my stereo system and one over by my room door where the third working double-outlet is.
I've unplugged my rollerdroid A/C from the window bracket and the heavy-gauge three-prong put in specifically for its draw type, found a good plastic cover and rolled it into my room closet for storage 'til next year, and I'll be testing my UPS in the surge-socket 3-prong double-plug under my desk where it will be put to use when the testing's done.
And Jenora, it feels good to walk into a sane room, via a similarly sane hallway at the top of my swept, safe staircase up from the second floor. I have no doubt in my mind you can manage such a feat, and you will adore how it feels both in proprioceptive feedback and your overall mental health as well once it's done.

At least the nice thing about it being freezing outside is that stuff can be tossed into the green bin any time and I can just let it sit there for days.

Wishing you the best for 2024!
I feel that.
I wish you good luck on your goals!
A bit in the same boat of untangling the housing cleaning knot, but have started down that road, albeit slowly.
Here's to making 2024 the best we can make it. *toast*
