Nintendo's (and pardon the Twitter link) officially shutting down the 3DS and Wii U servers for online functionality on April the 8th.
This includes Swapnote for the 3DS.
I know a lot of people watching me probably used that service around 2011-2013, so don't forget to back everything up from that. Don't let those memories between yourself and your friends get lost.
I got reminded of some people I use to talk with, and have indeed learnt what happened to some of them. Some of the news is good, some of the news is sad. Regardless, never ever let those memories be forgotten. They're essential.

Backup in this context is more - getting them all totally for sure off of the servers before they disappear forever.
Also, if you have a Wii U, try to backup its NAND if you can. There's this weird glitch where its storage gets corrupted over time... sadly affects mine, and while it's semi-useable, I can't backup the NAND. Gonna need to get another Wii U and hope I can do a system transfer.
