Might be a offshoot but are you sure 700$ sounds right for the repair? If you're after the hhd, those tend to start failing or data corrupting after 5-8 years and many parts are welded on.

A replacement at 300-1000$ or ssd for peace of mind so you would never have to worry about files being lost for good might be handy. Or the famous desktop since without welded parts, if one is missing can be replaced, or rent as well etc?

Still wish well, just saying that I had a couple 5-8 year old lappies. Just please consider even if you fix the thing might chug. Hhd data corrupts after 5-8 years, gpu fan fail after 7-9 years etc.

Keeping laptop cool with a laptop stand or ventilation can help and a vacuum for dust but I don't think anything stops eventual fan death. If its something like the files though sometimes you can transfer the hdd to a new computer. There are often guides to laptop self minor repair or upgrades so you could potentially salvage ram cards or hard drives. But welded on damaged components are basically unreplacable in a laptop. Modular (removable in desktop)

The GPU/MotherBoard is damaged which is affecting the oled monitor with scan line errors n epiliptic flashes.

the price might be £700 since may need to buy a downgraded refurbished version from ebay then have my stuff transfered since my parts aren't in stock.

Oof yeah, not a specialist but yeah Flashing errors with the screen does definitely sound like the oled is failing.

If it's a old computer, are you sure you wouldn't just want to transfer say, the hard drive and maybe salvage ram (if not out of date) on it?

That does sound a expensive repair. But most important things should be on your hard drive for art, i think right(?), your files, your software, etc.

Even for past computers i had that were better in their prime, the specs of a 1000$ machine become a 300$ machine a few years later.

The hdd started failing first on mine, data corrupting, lost some early arts to corruption for good, and as mentioned yeah, Fan eventually died, burning out all the grease.

There's a fair chance if you were to just buy a upgrade to your computer, that you could perhaps salvage the hard drive or upgrade it to a ssd, copy your files to be safe longer (35$ can easily get 1 tb, 70$ can get 2 tb. You might want to err more on the side of generous for art, or check your own folders. I think my art folder uses 20 gb as a jpg/png consumer, but if you want to store all those psd/krita files, you might want to eer on the side of safe than too little. 2 tb should still usually be plenty though. 1 tb can run out gaming lol. )

Still though not sure circumstances, you'd know more than your pc than me.

Is it a Mac or a laptop? I assume Macs are more expensive and might be harder to repair, i don't know them other than it's apparently bad.

Laptops usually have model specific uninstall videos. If you need the rig, even repairing it might only buy time before another part fails. If it's a old model too, gpus are mostly replacable, New is often 2-4x better, especially if you're paying 700$ for a downgraded refurbished unless you had a really good/expensive pc.

700$ is like, at least a 4050 / 4060 (sale) i think, Laptop ram and SSD is usually cheap like 35$ for 16 gb ram, 60$ for 32 gb, SSD is a pain in the ass to honestly transfer. I remember having to get a windows boot drive that took 10 hrs of waiting to format, then just transferring all my important art files on a 128 gb usb, and double checking none got corrupted. Complete hit or miss. I lost some art files at random, pretty much every video. The hdd was failing in spots, others worked.

o The art files are probably most important. Personally i'd try to see if there's a way to get them safe. Honestly i'd double archive all your art/important files to a secure flash usb, just in safe. I'm a little paranoid about hdd data loss after losing early arts FOR GOOD to them.

o If you just need your files, seeing if there's a way to salvage the files / hard drive might be good.

- I've part salvaged between laptops/pcs. To me, Keeping the hard drive or transferring data makes things feel 'more alike' than it should.

- I'm still running my desktop from a salvaged Laptop ssd. I still get a Acer Victus laptop brand boot logo to a desktop built pc.

- (Gpu is probably less important for art.. i think(???). Cpu isn't TOO important for single game gaming, but can affect multitasking / multi gaming. (Ex: Ow2 + idle game + Osrs + youtube uses like 4/4 of my cores. a 5th program like Hearthstone stutters my el cheapo 70$ 4 core 13100 lol. ) I assume for art, your art software + files are probably the priority(?) here. )

o Misc: Desktop Ram and Laptop rams are incompatible ofc, so make sure it matches (ex: Ddr4 for ddr4 pc, sodimm ddr5 for sodimm ddr5 laptop, etc). Ditto with the ssds, Sata (2.5" square) is incompatible with m.2 (2"x1" stick, faster format)

o You seem to already know a fair bit about your computer though, to identify the gpu motherboard. Are you sure you need the same model though or is it a repair shop(???).

o Would moving the drive to a newer laptop work, or copying your important files/arts/software onto a 128 gb usb?
