I mean the nail in the coffin was I can't use the site on my phone. They broke the touch scrolling when you use a browser so I gave up. I'll miss all the awesome artists I follow

Well, at least most of these artists abandoned this dumpster fire in favor of Bluesky nowadays.

I mostly just use Twitter to lurk around and stuff, not posting new content in my art account.

It really sucks when so many websites (intentionally) cant figure out how to make the experience good no matter the device or browser you use. Its not that hard, lemme browse your site! Stop forcing people to use your app!

i really like the fediverse in this regard. much like forums they're decentralized and ran by regular people, but with the added benefit that servers and its users can talk to each other, and there's different interfaces that are either unique, more like twitter, more like reddit, or more like instagram. although for new users, choosing an instance can be tricky

I’ve heard it described as the Linux of social media, and not in a good way.

The concept is cool, but the execution can be anything but user friendly.

i'd say the difficult part is posting because it's a lot more involved. you have to add relevant content warnings, alt-text to media posts, hashtags, and time it right if you want to maximize reach. learning the feature set of what interface you're using is the easy part. i'd recommend mastodon to start out with as it's a lot like twitter but with some very welcome features like being able to edit posts and a higher character limit.

the real issue that makes choosing an instance hard is that few people on fedi are referring other people to the instance they use or used previously. so with that, if you're interested in giving mastodon a spin, i can give you an invite code to meow.social.

Already on Bluesky but sadly not all the artists that I followed on there yet

be glad you did. it's just getting worse every day. i only kept my accounts and privated them just for contacting artists. sadly bluesky is not much better either
