You can already do a huge amount with anywhere from 3 to 3000 poofs! All comes down to how well you can motivate them and keep them focused. Ham works wonders for getting their attention, but it'll usually result in a chaotic mob of fur and ham chunks

ham and a rogue group of poofs sounds like a great distraction for leaving a party :P

When did you start doing pixel art and what style, if any, was it emulating? I've noticed a variety of works based around certain titles and was wondering how extensive said list of titles is and if there are any you hope to offer in the future that you haven't before.

The pixel sale started from me missing my days when I was in gamedev. I did a commission for  flafty where I did an SNES styled character select screen, and people loved it, more than the good majority of my work! So I saw the writing on the wall and offered a pixel sale! They're all under the sale folder titled "Super Poofstation." There's only three "titles" for that so far, but I"m looking into other options in the future. It's a huge amount of work just making the assets for one title, so that's why there's only 3 of them

Any reason for the non NSFW ruleset?

Could answer this for any myriad of reasons, but the biggest one that comes up is no matter where I go, be it DA, Twitter, FA, etc, once an artist opens up commissions of the NSFW variety, the good majority of artists soon do nothing but NSFW work. It gets stagnant, and the artist either has to go more extreme, or the audience gets bored of them. I don't wanna get pigeon-holed into having to work on the same stuff over and over and over again. It's one of the reasons I started switching to the themed sales format; so I could keep art fun and fresh for myself by doing new scenarios and ideas!

I really liked "Blacklight Retribution" back in the day. Loved the aesthetic, loved how both gun and character customization affected your stats and playstyle, loved how they were dropping mechs a whole two years before Titanfall! Sadly what killed it was how grindy they made it just to get said customizable parts, how much money you had to pay to get a single cosmetic, and the fact they tried to update the PC and Playstation builds of the game into one single update (which favored playstation over PC sadly)
So yeah if I could have the chance, I"d take the Blacklight IP and make something new with it.

1. Well as far as OCs, I feel like I've had the most fun with Shey and Ling in the Blobdog comic. They kinda evolved in ways I didn't expect at first!

Have you ever played a video game so hard that you physically start to sweat bullets and shed manly tears as you press the buttons with the force of a god amongst men whilst ascending to a higher plane of existence that could only be comprehended by a handful of humans to ever exist on this earth?

1. Not gonna lie, trying to 100% Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was probably the sweatiest I ever got trying to beat a game, though some matches in Quake 3 defo got heated as well. (Instagibs for life!)

2. Definetely gonna do the pixel sale again in the future, though I dunno what you mean with making it more like Sega Genesis. Games vary so much in art style, I just opted to do my style influenced by old retro stuff

I didn't really have a "gateway" character, I jsut grew up with a lot of disney movies and 90's cartoons, and thought anthros were a more interesting way to convey character traits. Though in that process I did have slight crushes on Jenna from Balto, Felicia from Darkstalkers, and Rouge the bat.

Favorite thing to draw?

Depends on my mood. Busty gals in ballroom gowns, or said gals in quicksand is always a safe bet, but sometimes I do enjoy making backgrounds and environments, mechs and complex mechanical stuff, or sometimes just a good fight scene!

Here's something I've wondered: What was your gateway to quicksand?

So as a kid in the 90's quicksand was actually a phobia of mine. I would walk out of movies for a moment if they even mentioned quicksand! Something about it terrified me. Can't really remember when that turned around for me, but when it was a girl character in quicksand instead of a guy character, that's when it started clicking for me. I think part of it was also a result from the 90's; the hero saving the damsel in distress, and just the desire to be that said hero. So the idea of a beautiful busty girl in quicksand desperately wanting rescue did wonders on my young adult brain.

Funnily enough, I felt the same way back then.

What are type of commissions do you like getting?

Well the obvious answer is gals in ballroom gowns, or gals sinking in quicksand or something similar (Bonus points for both!)
But outside of just FA honestly I like any commissions that let me contribute to a character or story, whether making a character or outfit from scratch, or getting to tell a story of my own creation with said character. The Dinner Date sale and Sniff n Snoff tavern sales have been super fun solely from being able to have freedom with how two or more characters might interact with one another!

What are your favorite Poof Party pics?

Honestly love any of the poof shop or red spot pics. Drawing poofs interacting with gremlin-like ways with the players is always a treat!

What are some traits of character designs that you’ve seen that make or break how much you enjoy drawing them?

There's a meme that went around a while back that compares the fursona of a fan, vs the fursona of a professional animator, and how it's more important for a character to be memorable and instantly recognizable, rather than slathered in unnecessary and pointless details and features in an attempt to make a character"seem" important or unique. Stripes, body tattoos, ensignias, and specific knots do almost nothing for a character design, at least nowhere near as much as a distinct hair shape or a focused color scheme.

1. Working off of references is NOT a sign of a bad artist. This was such a toxic mentality back in my DeviantArt days and not a day goes by that I don't wish I could have un-learned that one fact.
2. "Sexy" is a subjective term. An outfit's appeal can vary depending on angle and the character wearing it. But outside of ballroom gowns, probably the "sexiest" outfit I prefer that I've made is this; https://sta.sh/02aya1i4btmx
3. It's a mixed bag. Normally I'd love to get fanart of my characters, though what exactly that fanart entails can also be more disturbing. (I got fanart one time of this guy obsessed with giving my characters a "heart massage." IE. physically massaging the exposed heart of a character, ribs pulled back and everything.) Besides, I don't really feel like I have "fans" persay as opposed to "people who like my art style." They're not people who like MY ideas, they're people who like THEIR ideas done BY me. That feels more like I"m a tool than someone admired.
4. Not really. My art doesn't really "do" anything for me in that sense
5. The area around the shoulders and clavicle is a goldmine for everything from setting a tone for a cahracter shape, to adding that extra bit of expressiveness in a character's gesture. I always have the most fun around that area.. Where I need to work on most is the waist/midriff area. Seems to give me more trouble than I"d like to admit.

Seriously??? I know people got kinks and fantasys but if that was my character/characters someone did that too I would tell them to stop. I agree some kinks or fetish people got aren't right. I'll admit i might have a bit of obsession with some things, but at least mine are way more tame.

it's definetely preferred, though it also depends on what specifics I'm given freedom on vs what specifics I'd like to have freedom on

Well if stuff doesn't work out, FA has been a stable source of income for the most part. That's defo tie biggest one. And having that does hopefully translate to eventually getting more time and finances to take another stab at personal ambitions

Do you enjoy AMA journals like this?

1. The themed and collab sales are DEFO easier to handle! 9 times out of 10 the majority of the stress from a commission comes from me feeling like I"m not contributing anything meaningful. I'm jsut functioning as a living printer. These sales take the edge off by letting me have some more freedom and control over the content, as opposed to regular commissions
2.  flafty is probably my best commissioner in that regard, though most of the time it's more down to commission content rather than the person themselves
3. Probably not. Outside of giving female characters something more than a c-cup, I dont really like doing more kinky stuff on a public scale. Theres a reason why that stuff is poision for a portfolio; sexualized content has a bad habit of ripping away focus from design in favor of lust.
4. It's easy to feel disconnected from places like FA when 90% of my stuff is commissions. Guess I just need to feel like I still have a voice

I can respect that as a fellow artist. Sometimes I feel like I'm drowned out by some of my more thirsty followers and of course follow for the kink content, but also I know it's us that have to set the bar of what we want to draw. Do you feel sometimes you question what you draw, as in you're a 'means to end' and used rather than respected as an artist? I'm surprised I haven't packed it in at times.

All the time. I feel distant here because commissions rarely feel like "my" idea, and as a result I haven't contributed anything meaningful as an artist. But I gotta get food on the table and it sure beats working retail

Ironically as an artist, we'll spend most our lives drawing other peoples works, commissions, projects, tv series and ideas that aren't ours. I do get a bit of a kick out of my own art but i can't do it full time because you can get burn out (worst thing as an artist) so i'm lucky I can draw and physically go out to work for that nice balance. Do you have methods and coping ways as an artist to deal with sitting down constantly and keeping focused?

Rarely do I ever get anythign done in one sitting. I'll set checkpoints for myself so I feel a bit more accomplished, while making time to get up and more around, or do errands. That "checkpoint" mentality was actually the reason why I offered "classic" commissions, from taking breaks after I completed the lineart, or flat color, etc

I suffer a bit from ADHD so it can be challenging for me when drawing if I work on a certain part within a drawing or commission for too long, want to move on to the next. Self discipline and structure are paramount. I apricate your honesty and time, Toughset and hope the best in your continued art career! I know it depends on mindset, but know that although you think you're not doing anything fulfilling, you're improving and getting that much needed practice in. Keep at it!

What is the biggest inspiration for your artstyle?

I"ve had a lot of inspirations to this point, but probably animation as it applies to character design. Simplicity, contrast, and clarity are things I've come to really enjoy in character design, and animation is the best source of those.

Anywhere and everywhere! Though the specifics of that I"m not entirely sure. He once got a shipment of eggs from a ufo, still dunno how he got the connections for that...

We all have certain turn-ons or as they call them fetishes. I mean I'm into Damsels in distress bondage pics, pics of lovely BBW's, seeing gals with cigarette holders you know the normal turn on stuff.

Now to the point of my question do you ever get trolls or A-holes who thinks that some of your certain turn-ons are weird? Me for example my weird turn-ons are seeing ladies wearing the niqab AKA the full face veil outfits which to someone thinks its weird for me to have. I don't know why I just find them beautiful in that outfit. So any case yeah has anyone accuses you of having a weird turn-on?

I got a lot of flak on Deviantart when I started posting quicksand "damsel in distress" pics. Accusations of how I was sadistic, and "on the verge of becoming a serial killer," stuff like that. not commissions no. It was a bit too awkward waiting on approval from people in the chat, and ended up taking more time, not less. Furthermore the whole process stressed me out to no end. I'm just no good under camera

When it comes to complex character designs, are there certain ones that you would say no to? Like certain game bosses with their design I mean.

it's mostly down to how I visually process things. Every component I end up asking "why is this here? What function does it provide?" And if there's too many, well, my brain gets fried and I end up forgetting or neglecting details or features that "don't really matter" according to my understanding.
Honestly it's something I really don't know my own limits on yet. Though I will say, making detailed designs does feel like they turn out better if I can make them from scratch

Ah okay. I only ask this is mostly due to wanting to see Heartless Boss Monsters from a Kingdom Hearts game that got shut down get drawn out. Thing is, nobody has really done that. And only very few have done them at all.

Usually with commissions, the entertainment value comes with the context of the picture. Artistic freedom for Scenes where I get to show how characters interact in comical fashion, is always a fun romp. (Other than that, the safe bet is busty gals in peril)

I always prep example pieces with the introduction of each new sale. Most themed sales are solo, though I did get help from  belise7 with backgrounds for the Poof Party and Food Truck sales!

Well latex outfits are always fun to render. Office apparel is pretty good too. Otherwise I"m honestly ok with any kind of outfit/armor I get to design from scratch!
