So where have I been?
a year ago
I went through a major depressive episode last year.
Around June, Patreon switched payment processors to an overseas based one. This caused chaos and I lost a huge amount of supporters on my patreon. I've yet to recover from it.
With AI art on the rise, I started to receive messages about this more and more. A discussion about it ended with someone telling me that I'll just be no longer needed to create my art. This cracked my spirit.
I got bad health news late in the year. It's just been bad news after another and the idea of living off my creativity has been slipping further away.
Recently I started to feel better emotionally. I'm trying to keep my chin up and keep a work/art/life balance going. Then payment processors started kicking off NSFW artists again. I'm sure you heard about Gumroad fucking shit up and patreon adding a strange condition that fictional characters now need to consent (but them consenting isn't actually enough). My characters consent but the broadness of the rule's interpretation leaves anyone on their trust & safety team the ability to kick anyone off because the character consenting wasn't enough. This rule asks patreon to not act in bad faith, but can I trust them when last year they killed off half the support I've been receiving by moving their payment processor?
Then now... a big one. My significant other got laid off last thursday.
There's a huge weight on my shoulders, but I'm trying. Thank you all who've sent messages and left comments concerned for me. Thank you everyone who supports my work.
