It's worth noting that the tips of the prop blades move at a speed below, but not very much below, the speed of sound. In fact, that is the limiting factor on prop speed, and as such the maximum prop speed goes down as the prop gets longer. The stresses on all that are unimaginable. Even the tiniest nick in the leading edge of the prop has to be properly dressed to the prop doesn't come apart.

I can only imagine what it was like to make those before the days of CNC machine tools.

My dad was a pilot at Willow Run and flew B-24 Liberators..i still have a prop from one in my shed 11'7".[don't ask me how it was made or where he got it!)

Jimmy's World? yeah I used to watch him. instead of rebuilding the 300, he replaced it with a flying version. then he turned Elvis' last plane into a B&B rather than repower it with FAA rated engines (because the originals were too loud).
and after that, I just... stopped. I'm not in a position to get my 1980 MAXXAire Drifter off the ground (wrong configuration for the weight of the pilot)

oh, that guy. I've seen a couple of his melts. I need to remake my foundry so I can ingotize some of these aluminum cans my brother has been collecting for YEARS.
and I need to cast some blackpowder bullets while I'm at it.
I have a Colt Third Pattern Dragoon to feed ;3
