10th anniversary of Neolythia
General
Well here we are, a day that I’m honestly surprised came a lot quicker then it should. But to those that follow me I want to say proudly, today marks 10 years of Neolythia. Even if I haven’t been as active with it the last couple of years as I should be. Honestly I figured I’d be a lot further along then just the second arc, but hey life comes first.
Just wow, 10 years though. It’s still a massive milestone either way.
Originally I did have a plan to use this year as the very first appearance of a team up of Whitescar, Volt Shock and Warcat. And I can only hope I still do it, since well it’s still the 10 anniversary until this time next yeah, heh. If I can be honest. Most of my stuff usually don’t even last this long. I do end up losing interest or forgetting cause stuff kept popping up. Yet somehow, Neolythia has endured that. It’s something I hope doesn’t die.
But either way, I figured I would take this time to reflect a bit on the history, let you all in on what happened to lead it to this point. Some things I haven’t told anyone.
First though I want to get the thank yous out of the way. Not just to all those that have stuck around, but also to two very good friends of mine who I know I’ve thanked multiple times this past decade.
Snowfyre who without him, I wouldn’t have Whitescar. I still remember how that happened. He had created a super and gave away, it honestly caught my attention. But someone did manage to win the character. But Snowfyre did see how interested I was so he did create Whitescar for me. Not the last time, as he’s designed a few more after that and gave them to me, like Tempest Blade. But while Whitescar isn’t my oldest superhero, if it wasn’t for those events, Neolythia wouldn’t be a thing today. And he’s had to endure me going on about ideas and stuff which he’s sometimes turned into characters. Even having some of his heroes and villains in it to help make the universe seem more alive and busy. So thank you, old friend :)
kb-unlimited another very good friend of mine whose done so much for me that I don’t think I could ever repay. He’s the one that, during some slumps, helped push me along. Hell he suggested that I do origin stories for my three main heroes. It’s cause of that I do have a more sense of the over all storyline I hope to tell. But it’s not just that. He’s helped me hammer out character details and designs. Hell, if it wasn’t for him, Warcat wouldn’t really have a defined look. He helped design her look and costume from what little bits of info I had jumbled together. As well as just help flesh her out to being more then the vague concept idea I’ve had. Like suggesting her species, when she isn’t a hero, being a Shiba Inu. Not just her, he helped me by taking the idea of ‘oh I can’t decide of if I wanted a rough collie or honey badger girl’ and combining them together to get Leylyn Faircross. He also did make slight changes that I liked to what I had for Volt Shock’s look and made a suggestion or two about his powers. Even something that well should have been obvious. Seriously thanks man for all your help over the years. I just hope, yet also know, I’ve helped you with your own ideas for your stuff over the years as well :) .
Hell thanks to not just these two, but also a small group I’m in on discord that’s listened to my ramblings over the past decade. Who’ve helped with brainstorming little bits, or helped me with learning more about stuff like Egyptian history that will help Warcat’s storyline. Or just been there in general.
As said before, Whitescar isn’t the first of my heroes. As said before the very first concept idea at least was Warcat. She I think came around late 2010, early 2011? But different from what she is now. Back then the basic idea was she was a human that turned into an anthro lioness. Not as muscle bound as she is now. Back then as well there was not that much to her besides that idea and the name Warcat. Everything else is more new.
Now Whitescar herself wasn’t the exact start of Neolythia as it is today, even if some of it is still similar. There was an idea before hand, of her being found when she was much younger, confused and missing her memory. The idea for her was she was taken in by a cop who raised her as his own daughter. She would of grown up with a strong sense of justice, seeing her adopted father struggle against increasing crime. She would of learned she had powers and decide that she couldn’t exactly follow in his footsteps, but became a superhero instead, inspired by him to help fight against crime.
That idea was dropped after I had started writing the first battle against Elementala. It just didn’t exactly fit the way the character was going, plus back then humans and anthros existed in the world. Speaking of the world, the layout was much different as well. While my crude map shows it as an alternate Earth, which is is, originally the idea was it was Earth. Our Earth, just with an added continent in between New Zealand and South America. Just like the previous idea it just didn’t feel right. So it was scrapped and I went with what I decided, for good or worse (like trying to figure out different names to give some countries, like old names. Hence why England is Albion in this world. Which is an old name for it, used by the ancient Romans I think in real life).
Another thing that changed over the years was originally I was going to make it a single story, Defenders of Neolythia. Which would have been told in chapters. I did manage to do one which technically is non-canon, even if the events could still appear as it was just Whitescar stopping some crooks. I never took it down, it’s still in my gallery. But after doing so many stories in that format, it just didn’t feel write.
The decision to make it smaller stories, shorts or multi-parters I felt was the right choice to go with. And I’ll fully admit, the idea came from how the MCU was telling it’s story. All those separate stories, following character story-lines over the course of those separate stories, felt better to me. Hence why I’ve decided to write them the way they are now. With three major character story-lines each with their own theme.
Whitescar and her searching for answers about her past.
Volt Shock’s mission to, in his eyes, redeem himself
And Warcat’s path to find the Amulet of Sekhmet and figure just what happened to her.
So that’s my current path with story telling. While there will be other story-lines focused on different characters (I got one in mind for Leylyn), all of them will ultimately, well I’ll TRY to have them be able to stand on their own, all while still telling to the over all story I’ve got planned. Tempest Blade has her own storyline dealing with an ancient enemy that her people think are just a myth.
Hell originally there was no arcs separating everything. Yet now there’s a few planned ones
Emergence, which is already done, showing about the supers starting to come out.
The Search for Others which is the current one, which I’ll tell you will end in something like the Avengers, a team up during what I’ll just say is called the Battle of Crescent Stadium.
The next one is still being debated what to call it, Arms Race or Tech Rising. Which will focus more on the changing world and the fact it will start changing due to the existence of supers.
Other arc ideas still not fully established yet, but there is progress there, even if I haven’t figured out where they are. Like the Resistance Arc and the Harvesters Arc (names of these arcs are always subject to change.
But even with these arc ideas, there’ll still be mini ones sprinkled throughout. Like an upcoming mini arc, I’m just calling ‘The Chemigal Arc’ and let’s say it be more amusing then anything. Hey not everything superhero related has to be serious. I’m a big believer of the fact superhero worlds should be fun. I mean still tell serious and dark story-lines or have massive impact character stuff, but still know how to have fun with it, (Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is a great example of that)
I started this in 2014 when I first posted Whitescar vs Void Master, and in some funny way, the current story is only going up to 2020, so I’m WAY over when it would of happened in universe. But things happen after all. I want everyone to know I haven’t been idle, I’m still working on it. And I do hope to get stuff up. I do plan to at-least finish writing this current arc, between now and next year. And I hope you all can start reading what I’ve got very soon.
Here’s to ten years of Neolythia. Let’s hope it has many more years in the future!
Until then, have a great time!
And thanks to all of you as well/again.
(times like these I wish I had either a catch phrase for either of my heroes say. Or some tagline to end this on that wraps into Neolythia. And man I think this is my longest journal to date)
