A life goal, making a video game.

General
So recently this crept into my mind, I have a desire to make a video game. I'm 37 and I have no other life goals nor real career paths or desires but this is something that I could maybe possibly do as a personal accomplishment.
So what kind of game? Well my favorite genre is Metroidvania, but thinking about that the market is saturated with enough of them, and not only that but VERY good ones.
So what else? Well I like Legend of Zelda, and it's clear that Nintendo is not likely going to create any more 2D top down styled Zelda games so that's it. I have played a few indie LoZ games, but in my opinion most of them are not that great. An exception being Ittle Dew 2, however it's a little more focused on puzzle solving and having less of the typical dungeon items.
What I have in mind is a game that is like Legend of Zelda Link Between Worlds where in you can go to dungeons in any order you wish. Unlike that game however I want it to be more open as Lorule (the Dark World) is very separated. Furthermore I would want dungeon items to be gotten in dungeons proper.
I do also know I want most characters to be insects because why not.
I'm just wondering what particular style I should go with for the characters.
Link to the Past styled sprites.
Secret of Mana/Chrono Trigger styled sprites.
Something entirely different.
I'm not 100% sure.
I know a lot of this is just musing, but I figured I would toss this out there in case someone would have some ideas or maybe would want to help out.

Good luck with your game idea! I'm personally hoping to make something with Dark Souls/Elden Ring-esque combat one day (I like the complexity of it).

"Imagine a video game where 9-puzzle was in charge of character design"
I thought I was makin' a point when I posted that.
That said, the only reason that was possible was because dungeon items could be crafted outside of dungeons and the recipes were only gated by player knowledge. Still, even if you had all items from the start, finding some of the shortcuts was pretty tricky, and doing the last dungeon first, iirc, required you to do a specific sequence of things in the prologue, which was pretty cool.
Anyway, I 100% want to help out. I'm a pretty good programmer, and I've done some fiddling in Unity (open to any engine, though). Whenever you want to get this baby off the ground, or at least build a prototype, we can do it!
I have made some images of bullet patterns so I could do that.
Make an insect themed shmup, so basically Mushihimeama. =P
