2024 Entrancing Awards Recs!
The 2024 Entrancing Awards winners have been announced, and everyone did an amazing job. I absolutely loved Headhunting and The Empty Room, and I'm so pleased they were recognized.
I have a few other works I'd like to also call out, from me personally, that I thought were excellent but weren't otherwise recognized. I've skewed this towards works that I thought could use a bit more attention/that I think people may have missed.
Portent by SugahBaby did an amazing job. The scene, of a prince and a mage, was beautifully set, and the hypnosis was incredibly well executed. Excellent fantasy work, I just wish it was longer.
Do you like old James Bond films? Action? Adventure? Camp? If so, A Sheep in Oracle's Clothing by Limewah is excellent. It manages to nail that Bond-like style while being a fun hypno-romp.
For anyone that follows me, you know I enjoy mixing Starfox with hypno, so it tracks that Shifting Stars is on this list. While I didn't care for the smoking, it's an interesting concept, thoughtfully executed, and absolutely worth a read.
Toy Acquisition by H_Falt somehow manages to be post-apocalyptic sci-fi scavenger hypno, but with charm and humor. It's somehow both hot and adorable? The characters here are really well done, and if you like sci-fi it's an excellent read.
The Orb is delightfully weird in the best way. It's unlike anything else in the contest, and it's a solid, easy recommendation.
While The Annual Hypno Showdown may have a slow start, this work by debut author RoLeolin ended strong! The concept of two expert hypnotists trying to zonk each other more over the course of a month was quite clever, as were the various traps and setups RoLeolin wrote.
I have a soft spot for fantasy, and I love unaware hypno, so it's only natural that I ended up enjoying ClearRay's 'Hero in Training.' An unaware hero serving his king? Yes please.
A Matter of Indulgence by orccultist is a strange work. About a cleric that starts to have strange and tempting visions, it does things I would definitely not have expected, but orccultist is a skilled author and despite everything, it works. If you like fantasy, give it a go!
Other works I enjoyed:
- You Wear the Hat by Dolphinsanity
- Fear of Missing Out by theonehowl
- The Last Tom by Danath
- Good Samaritan by Sheeplike
- Deep in the Game by Kizu
- Change of Administration by Incon
- Green Dominion by Ziew
- Guiding the Hero by DaybreakHero
- Best Laid Schemes by whytheotter
- Full Service Delivery by Ko Bunny
- A Chance Encounter by Blaise/Finn (caution, darker ending)
- Hypno-Gaze Dates by Daddy Hyperion
- Splitting Time by Reggie R
And remember you can still read all 56 entries here!

Dark End

Glad you enjoyed The Orb. It was a case of being busy as the deadline approached, so I turned the contest entry into a writing exercise and had some fun along the way. Also, since I don't think I mentioned it anywhere else, the swirling patterns of light on the orb itself are directly inspired by the background on Balatro.
