This may be an unpopular opinion but if you are taking commissions for any reason, whether emergency or not, you have a duty to deliver that commission in a reasonable amount of time. People aren't giving you money out of the goodness of their heart, they're sending you money for the service you provide.

If you can't or won't deliver, have integrity. Don't offer "emergency" commissions.

And the biggest one. Even if you need money, finish the commissions you've taken FIRST before taking more! I do not understand opening more and more commissions and then taking months upon months to finish the earlier ones and then use the excuse that you're "juggling commissions" or something of that caliber. You wouldn't be if you didn't take more than you could handle.

If you can't handle deadlines or peoples expectations and constantly have meltdowns or whatever, then what are you doing here? Yes, it's blunt, but I see so many artists having meltdowns every other week, being woes is me and going on and on about how they just can't do it. It's ridiculous. Don't offer a service and take people's money if you can't handle the pressure.

I'm not saying people can't have depression or issues. I'm just saying have integrity.
