I may be confused, but what's political about Cara? Am I out of the loop?

It's not necessarily political, but the website came about mostly in response to many art websites being (in many people's opinions) "too AI-friendly" and many artists have been migrating from other websites to Cara. For instance, deviantArt and ArtStation have become flooded with excessive amounts of AI artwork. I was never on ArtStation, but over on deviantArt, this came after dA launched their own AI image generator after illicitly using deviantArt artwork without permission to train it. There was big backlash and lawsuits, and deviantArt eventually made a big public deal out of how they changed it and the default is that your art is NOT to be used for AI training. HOWEVER, just recently, dA changed their uploading system and, without telling anyone, changed the default to your art CAN be used for AI training. It's basically a big AI money grubbing system there now (they even post news articles boasting about how much random new user has made selling AI art) - what community remains is generally pretty upset about it.

Meanwhile, places like Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram are facing changes such that the company can legally use public user content in AI training, so many artists, writers, voice actors, musicians, etc. are trying to find someplace else "safe" to share their work. Cara is trying to provide that for artists.
