Because Gumroad decided to make the oh-so-great decision to ban anything related to NSFW. (Basically pulling a Tumblr).

Because alienating your entire NSFW Customer Base totally won't blow up in their faces...

Basically they went full "lets make the internet safe for children" mode because of the payment partners. It was either that or you no longer have the means to pay, so yeah gumroad was kind a forced to make this decision.

I think it's a good deal a matter of association. Brand optics are very important.

It's kinda like Walt Disney. He was a smoker but, as far as his public image is concerned he wouldn't publicly smoke (IIRC).

It's what we get for being in the year 2024 and still believing art and cartoons can be "unsafe for children", who need to be mind-controlled for their safety by tech companies and payment processors and even lawmakers acting as a morality police: I made a ruckus warning about this for years and was demonized, even if I did so in a harsh and exaggerated way in the past... now I shut up for the most part as I no longer have the energy to deal with this, I'm just done with it all at this stage. In the end what I expected happened and we're back in the Victorian era, it's literally a crime to make art including stuff that isn't even explicit... hope the world enjoys the alternative it so wanted.

Isn't that mostly for games? I worry that if too much NSFW content goes there, the government and / or payment processors will force them to do the same next, seems to be just a matter of time with each service. Only real solution seems to be decentralized platforms, and most of those rely on crypto for payments which is a very hairy solution so yeah.

Zines, books, games, animations; it’s honestly tons of stuff now. But yes, odds are, it’s going to eventually purge everything as well.

We could also just make a new sales platform to rival PayPal that accepts NSFW sales. Easy market to catch right now, lol

If someone with the technical know how could, I’d love to see it. Sadly I think it’s a pretty complicated process.

The problem is the payment companies, the banks, and the credit card companies strong arming anyone who does such a thing. One would need to legitimately create a new entire bank, credit card company, and only then could this option work in the long run.

This is what I meant. Definitely not suggesting it would be easy to do, but it is something that can be done and motivation like wanting a secure platform to do business on is what usually drives creation of new options like this.

Yeah the whole system is a bunch of fake puritans trying to dictate our every decision. For sure something needs to be done about it.

Man, that sucks. It's becoming harder and harder to find places to vendor NSFW or even odd (SFW but furry) material.

Maybe itch.io they have some things on there you might be able to sell, but yeah.

I believe Ko-fi had the same absurd bans on anything it perceives as NSFW from the beginning. Patreon hasn't downright banned it yet but has been persecuting NSFW artists for years... they're also preforming identity theft on users now, I had to abandon them and my only income as I'll never accept having my ID associated with my art. Subscribestar is the only sane one on the list... don't know how long they can hold the line against this worldwide phenomenon, but good on them for managing so far and let us hope they can continue!

And you don't even draw any actual NSFW content from what I know, at most some rare borderline nudity like breasts: They must be taking the same approach as Youtube, which is labeling anything with anthro or dragon characters as NSFW unless it was made by a big studio, virtually any content with furry characters can be randomly age-restricted there. Goes to show what a joke those platforms and this culture have become... every day I find new ways to be sick of anything having to do with today's society and just wanting it all to be over, it has literally become a crime to draw art or make cartoons.

could use donations and purchases towards your game to help fund a site where people can get your paid stuff.
