Its not the 1st time its happened, but I still want to shout into the void and make it known, I will not commission, because you ask me to, I will commission you if I decide myself I WANT to commission you.
Marketability is Very Important, and Ive been doing this for years, so I know what I want and need to see.
IF I like what I see in your gallery: examples of quality, If you look like you have the skill set Im looking for: Examples of what you can and do Draw, and most importantly: if I have the money to do so...also Prices in general.
I cant say I can afford to pay for your time, If I dont even know what your Rates are, or what Price Im expected to pay for X Quality. I dont do guessing games.
I dont make enough money to pay for my rent, Bills, food & necessities, and commission every person under the sun.
So if Im going to commission, its because of the mentioned Criteria....most importantly, If I even have the money to afford it.

Because there are a few instances hat some legit established users have tried. Which is why Im generalizing instead of hopelessly shouting out Scammers specifically.
I hope the artists will understand that this is a disrespectful attitude in both directions
Sure its mostly scammers, but a few times its been actually people trying to make money. And I get it, times are tough and maybe you gotta switch tactics. But, this just aint it lol

Very true, people need to understand that some approaches are just not it, some would say rude.
But seriously, I get these all the time too. The biggest offender is Twitter. Every time I interact with somebody, a few minutes later, I'll get a scammer request for art.
Im amazed I dont get them on twitter, but then again I go there and bluesky very rarely. I do get alot of bots, but not DMs trying to Solicit me..
If it helps, you can go into "Site Settings" and disallow notes from accounts that are younger than X amount of time, up to 30 days. Not the perfect solution, but it might cut down on some of the spam and scammers a little bit.
And funny enough, I like to humor them and see what this "Special Deal is......and they try to push $100 or so, and I look and....not to be mean, sometimes the "Art" I see look AI generated and shit quality. And Im like NICE TRY
And BAH, even though Im bitching about it, they arnt THAT annoying.
Besides, that would effect new artists that join that are legit.
Because Ive gotten a few from real artists who are trying new tactics to get money.
Which hey, I get it. But I dont have to like it. Especially when they wanna charge me large prices like Im made of money, so it feels more like they are 'searching' for people thatlook like they have deep pockets.

At least those are easy. The people who message to get a "collab" commission out of you and try to push an idea they like but you don't vibe with get on my nerves a little more I think.
But then they wanna ask for things you say "No" to and then try to find work arounds to still do it, despite saying "No"
That shit makes it unfun X.X
And I nearly wanna block / ban people like that.
But for whatever reason, I have to worry more about the people who want to collab with me, trying to push my boundaries of interest and comfort, because of what THEY want.
Or they try to push me to an artist WAY outside of budget cause "Oh, you have lots of art and commission these big wigs, I thought it was no big deal and you could afford it.:

SOMETIMES, like you’ve come across, there really are some legitimate people out there that aren’t trying to scam anyone(in which case, I get it; you’re trying to get by like the rest of us), but when some rando that’s never even bothered to talk to me before is suddenly asking me for money...I dunno, it rubs me the wrong way.
I know times are tough, but at least -pretend- like you care about who might be paying you, and not spamming people to the point of harassment.

And very often I either get a story about how tough things are (I get it) or I get buttered up with " I love your gallery / characters, they would look great in my style."
Just crap like that.
If you are interested in borrowing my characters, just like anybody, I love to be asked 1st. Especially if it might be anything NSFW.
Because, I care about how my characters are represented
Does this even work? Like, I realize artists have to make a living and in sales there's a level of sharkiness, but going out of your way to contact people like that is a bit scummy IMO.
Everytime, its somebody with a newer account, and they have maybe 2-5 images, but they look super amature, even AI generated.
Not to insult them if that is their legit style....but then they wanna charge $50+
