Dragoneer
By now you've probably heard the news that
passed away today.
I had been following his health updates for a while, and it was very scary seeing what he was going through, and how long it was taking for doctors to treat him. We don't know the details yet of what happened, but I can't help but feel this was the result of the costs and delays in the American healthcare system. Even though I was really concerned for his health, it's still surreal to find out he's gone. I'm honestly in shock.
Furaffinity has been absolutely integral to the fandom for nearly 20 years. Like many artists, I got my start here, found my friends here, and even met the love of my life here. I would not be where I am today, making a living from my artwork, talking with my wonderful friends and such a kind community, without this site. It's unfathomable to imagine life without it, and Dragoneer was always there, fighting so hard and making so many sacrifices to keep the site running, whether people were grateful or not.
We all owe a debt to Dragoneer, and Furaffinity is his legacy. I really hope that there are plans to continue funding it and keeping it operational, because I consider it the main furry art and community site, and it's the most dependable and resourceful furry art gallery there is. It absolutely needs to keep going, and I know Dragoneer would want that.
I never met Dragoneer in person, but I felt his presence through this site for all those years. I'll continue to think of him every time I come here. Furaffinity and him were integral to each other, and in turn were integral to the fandom and many thousands of lives. This site, and the community it fostered, have had a ripple effect throughout the world that's far too big to measure. It was largely because of his steadfastness at keeping the site going, and supporting artists that are the lifeblood of the community, that the furry fandom is as big as it is today. He completely changed my life for the better, and I'm certain many others would say the same.
Rest In Peace, 'Neer. You will be missed.
