Eulogy for a purple dragon
I didn’t expect to be writing a eulogy when I woke up this morning, but here we are.
I first met Dragoneer on AIM, in an inflation group. (Yes, I’m old).
He was very kind and accommodating and helped me understand this inflation kink I’d started to come into.
It was from Dragoneer I learned not to be ashamed of my kinks or think myself lesser for having them.
When he found me again on FA after so long and gave me a watch, I’d felt truly honored.
The father of FA was taken far too soon.
He gave us a true gift.
When art sites like Elfwood, Yerf and more recently, DeviantArt, all fell to greed or coding insanity, FurAffinity remained user and artist friendly.
Changes, when they came, were always unobtrusive and always good. More gender options, for instance, clearly defined General, Mature and Adult categories and so on.
I pray the stewards who come along next treat it the same and honor the legacy of Dragoneer, keeping it user friendly and keep it friendly to the artist and the user.
Even with all our technology and smarts, we are not immortal. But Dragoneer’s spirit will endure in every strata of the site he created and in the hearts of those who knew him.
Every day is a gift. To whatever forces you believe enabled you to exist on this earth, be grateful.
Dragoneer… rest well, lad. You gave us something beautiful and asked for nothing in return.
Put in a good word for us on the other side.
Goodnight, but not goodbye.
