Furrydelphia 2024
Finishing up my last vacation week of the year. My next con will be Furpoc starting on Halloween (gotta put in for some days off).
This last week started with me heading to Furrydelphia. As with last year I wound up staying in Bensalem PA the night before (15 mi away), dealing
with traffic etc. Got to the con Fri morning--pretty easy, again; from I-676 (the Vine St DISTRESSway) you take the Broad St exit...take a right after you cross over the highway and the parking garage opposite the Sheraton is right there. Warning: Even if you do NOT use the hotel garage (and I did not, I used a Philly Parking city one) you may well get billed for valet parking for two nights. I did. And I disputed it when I checked out.
I put 1,600 miles on the car this past week--seriously--to Philly, Pitt, and back, etc. I started doing FD in 2021 (Casino) as it was the first con, for me, to reopen after the pandemic. The Sheraton is a great hotel, and was the used by AC (as the Wyndham) in 05. Panels were great! My classic cartoons panel drew a good crowd and I have audio of it-- audio of the con now going up at http://www.anthrocoon.com
The Bobby Hill imitation panel was hilarious! BlindWolf8 did 4 panels, which I recorded, though levels may be low (Mental Health, Asexuals, Disabilities
and Personal Finance). Somewhere I should have audio of Beastars and You (possibly low levels?) The sched was so packed I had to order a cheesesteak from Rex's Beer and Pizza online during Family Feud (the game was good), ran through rain across the street to get it, then ate during Beastars panel.
Drayne the Con Chair did memories of FDs past.
There was a talent show and I recorded almost all of it. Randy Ringtail (who roomed with me one night) sang a song.
There was also the Macro Micro meet, mostly a chance for fursuiters to have their pictures taken next to tiny buildings but also I got up and briefly mentioned how I started clean giant-tiny site shrinkingman dot com back in 1998 and maybe people could check it out if they haven't yet.
On Sunday I tried Victory Brewing Company a couple blocks away--good salad and cheesesteak and their lager beer.
Lot of new folks at the con. The total attendance was 2802, up from 2510, and a good amount was raised for charity.
Next year's con is in mid August and is called Hoagiefest or something--based on the annual celebration Wawa convenience stores have. And I did have a nice Wawa roast beef sammich.
From Philly on to Mechanicburg, near Harrisburg, for one night at a very nice Holiday Inn. The next day I saw the PA State Police Museum in Hershey and (again) took the trolley tour of Hershey chocolate. One woman narrated while a man kept showing up as different comedic characters. Obviously the trolley stopped, he ran off then re-entered the rear and did a quick clothing change.
On to Pittsburgh staying at a familiar Quality Inn in Moon Township. Had good pizza at Mineo's in Squirrel Hill (Penn Brewing in Troy Hill, German food,
wasn't open yet). Primantis, yet again. A lot of driving around. Also enjoyed doing the Carnegie Art and Natural History museums again, in Oakland.
Left there Wed to go to Wilkes Barre and saw a nice ballgame with the RailRiders tho it got chilly as the night wore on.
Today I headed back and hit the usual traffic woes PLUS going from I-90 to I-95 nr Waltham MA it was torrential rain like crazy. Stuck in slow moving traffic and could barely see but kept moving on, etc. Then it cleared out.
I probably have more to talk about re: FD later but who knows.
My regular cons:
Anthro New England: Boston, Jan or Feb
Furcationland, Portland ME, Apr
Anthrocon, Pittsburgh, July
Furrydelphia, Philly, Aug
Furpocalypse, Stamford CT, Oct
