I'd reckon it could be a good topic, but I'd definitely say you should give it a good bit of time for the facts and such to come through and straighten out, if you decided to go for it.
Me personally, I'm not sure what I'd do in your shoes. I don't think it's a bad idea if done with due diligence, but maybe I'd just as soon go back to focusing on other topics.
