August 2024 channel update

Hey there ho there hi there!
I hope you all are doing well! It's going to be a crazy month ahead for me with moving and stuff. But here's a little update on what's coming up! I know I promised many of you a Christmas special this year and 2 more episodes after to round out this first season but honestly I keep giving it thought and there are some days I'm tempted to do just the Christmas episode, the season finale and just let that be it for now. I'm not gonna lie things haven't been easy for me with this project some days but I'm not gonna up and quit because I want to at the very least cap off this story arc.
Basically what I'm saying is after the Christmas special episode there might just be one more episode and that'll be all from me for a while. I'm sorry I know that sucks to hear but i want to either A learn to do better animation and framing or B find a way to get help animating episodes to make them look as good as you guys deserve...because I read all the comments and i know not everyone thinks of my style as "good looking" for lack of a better term.
So i will either try to attempt enhancing my artwork and animation, assemble a team or if none of that works and i still feel this way I might retire this project. I say that because as i said i read all the comments, the questions and the feedback on all platforms and the "copycat" comments, the "this is trash/furry bait" comments and the "your animation sucks get the thumbnail artist to animate for you" comments hurt the most. Especially when it's just myself animating all of this for months on end in my spare time outside of work, spending time with my family, friends and my partner. It hurts to read that and know i spent so much time only for people to see it that way and hate what i made. I need and want to do better but I don't know if i can and it is on that somber note that i will say i cannot guarantee 2 episodes after Christmas any longer it might just be one and done after that.
I'm sorry

I'm sorry you have to deal with something like that, and it has soured your feeling toward something you enjoy doing.
A good thing to do is work on developing a thick skin and critical eye. I am not going to say this is easy, but it does help. When you hit those negative comments, try to step away, focus on some other things that you like and make you happy, and let the anger or hurt pass. Then, once you're calmer, you can consider some of the comments from a better position. Is the comment saying something that could actually be helpful, or are they just being mean?
Also, keep in mind, that many of those comments are coming from people who more than likely are not creating anything of their own either. They spend all their energy tearing down others, and likely spend no time creating something themselves.
You are creating something that people like, and it is doing well. You have over ten thousand subscribers, and tens of thousands of views. You have more watchers than I on here, and numerous several pieces of fanart here.
I would say you are doing well for a single independent artist and animator who has been working on a solo project for a little over a year.
You should be very proud about how much you have done.
If you want to take a break and work on improving your art and animation, that is okay.
But, you should do it because you feel like you need to practice and improve, not because someone else who is not an artist complains about it, with no understanding of how much work it takes to do so.
Another saying that firs in this case is, "if you try to please everyone, you end up not pleasing anyone." There are clearly people who like what you are making, regardless of the perceived quality. I am certain that they outnumber the detractors, even if they are not as vocal. I am somewhat one of them. I don't say much here or comment on YouTube, but I have watched all the Madtown videos, enjoyed them, and love Maxine. As she has fanart, I am clearly not the only one.
If you want to redesign a character, again, it should only because you want to. Because you thought of something that seems more fitting to them, or better represents how you think they should be, not because of some random comment by someone you do not know, who has no experience with art.
I like Madtown. I will admit it does seem a bit crude, but I am also aware that -- as you have pointed out -- you are basically one person who is working on this thing in his free time. It is better than anything I can do. I have not drawn in quite a while, and never tried actual animation (outside of a computer class back in high school, which was over two decades ago). For me, it also gives a bit of nostalgia. It kind of reminds me of the early animations that were made back in the early 2000s, when the internet was young, and a lot of people were starting out.
I am in no way saying you can't or shouldn't take a break. It is a good idea to do so at times. To get away from negative people, to recharge your creative battery, and to hopefully come up with fresh new ideas. If you need to take a break, do so. If you want to work on your animation skills, do so. However, do not let comments from certain people get to you.
You are doing something great, and I hope it keeps going.
