Meaplex - a Graymuzzle's report

You have to keep a little crazy hidden away in your back pocket just to maintain your sanity.

Since I first began coming to this con almost ten years ago, it has grown into hugeness. I am told we had over 7200 attendees this year. When I heard this, my jaw dropped - but it truly is believable just from the size of the facility, which was full at peek times.
On a personal note, I have to thank my wife for saving me from myself.
'Are to taking my scooter?'
'Nahhhhh... I should be good.'
'Put the scooter in you car.'
'Yes dear.'
Friday, after retiring to my car for a quick lunch, I decided to break that scooter out and ride. (and good thing too) The distance from the parking garage to the con area was a good quarter of a mile. Then, the run from the entry point to the dealer's den was about the same. Even with the scooter, I was quickly exhausted. When I got home, she smiled, listening to my tales, fed me two slices of pizza, and then watched me pass out on the couch. (and that's leaving early)
SUGGESTION!!! If you are older, or have a mobility issue, look into renting a scooter if you do not own one. (I am looking at a certain Wolf as I say this.) They are available, as I saw one or two, and the hotel has a footbridge to the Orange County Convention Center, where I know for sure they have them.
I certainly enjoyed all of the things I attended, but the thing I enjoyed the most was simply rubbing elbows with the friends I have in here who attended. This includes a VR chat visit with an Australian friend I've known for a long time; arranged for us by another of our friends.
This leads me into a mention of the Graymuzzle Breakfast which we do every year. Yes, 0700 on a Sunday morning is not doable for most con attendees (and the event is open to everyone), but we have so much fun just sitting and chatting. This year, Clayton, probably the oldest among us, came through in a big way. He was there and checked with the manager of the hotel's diner, telling him about our gathering. The manager smiled and said, 'Come on in, we've got plenty of room.'
We were there for two hours and the food was great.
I'm almost recovered. I say almost, because, though the body might be back up to full charge, a good part of me is still thinking about all the friends I got to hang out with.
The really wonderful thing about the con - we furs are such a friendly bunch. This was told to me by more than one stranger I spoke with.
I am hoping that next year the children will be allowed back again. I say this in the thought of my granddaughter coming over for dinner Monday night wearing Fox ears, paws, and a tail. She wore them for me, and I did indeed smile.

I too wish the fandom could be family inclusive over all. There has to be a way to keep the mature stuff from the general; velvet ropes or sections.
07:00 is about my third call of nature over night, and just about when the younger ones are in bed after room parties and raves. It's a good time for the more mature set to enjoy each other's company in quietude. I follow Clayton on X, I figured you'd know him and maybe a certain Pengu that alternates their time between FL and NJ.

And thanks for letting this wuff take a spin on your scooter! That thing is tops! I doubt I'd be able to bring one on the plane from CO, but will certainly look into local rentals next year. That idea about the Orange County Convention hall is a good one. Not sure if they open the skyway for Mega, but could just tool down the sidewalk between the two if they don't. Wouldn't be any further than what they had us walking from the literal "back 40" grassy acres behind the hotel!
Clayton really did come thru for us! That Diner was "the bees knees," especially compared to the Starbucks market we had to use last year. Great food, reasonable prices especially for a convention place, and great service. And tables big enough for all of us to sit around, instead of having to pull up multiple "4 tops" at the market.
This was definitely a friendly con! Loves your story of the young lady that came up to you. And how about meeting Crystal Angel while we were just sitting and chatting? What a lovely and friendly fur! Wuff also had multiple furs come up and say "hi" while Vrghr was standing in various lines. Furs wuffy only knew from their online aliases and Vrghr likewise to them. But they saw the badges and had to pop over for a greeting and a hug! Left this wuffy with a huge grin for the rest of the con!
The convention program was certainly fun, and wuff enjoyed the panels and events he attended. But you're right - - the highlight was just getting together and chatting happily with friends there. Totally worth the price of admission!
Really looking forward to doing it again next year, God willing and the creek don't rise! *hehe*
Hope to see you again then!
*HUGS*
