Scanner rage!
I miss my old scanner. I tried to get a replacement, but my new computer doesn't see it. I just scanned a new piece and my HP scanner is colorblind! It sees mostly gray! Why? How did HP downgrade with a newer model? Lemme' guess. More dedicated printer and scanner was slapped on? Did they cheap out? I don't know. It's frustrating me to no end. Their editing software isn't much help, either. It will enhance certain colors, but bring out the colors that are on the page? Nope. I cannot get Earth tones for crap!
I need something better. I need something that works with Windows 10 and is NOT an HP scanner. Canon is my next consideration because they at least have good cameras. But, I am open to recommendations. If there's a reliable plug-n'-play of good quality, please point me in that direction. I want my clients to have their money's worth and this thing is sabotaging me!

I miss having a good Brother printer/scanner as I had no problems with those and why I switched over to drawing on the computer. As of now, my printer doesn't work so I just use it to scan stuff.
But i learnt that theres actually a backup "offline" version of the scanner/printer driver you can download off HP website instead...
... you just got to find it after ignoring their "recommended app driver" and find the correct one....
I think they secretly try to discourage using that version of the driver.
I ain't buying one of those printers again, once I have the money I'll get myself a good Brother or some other brand of printer/scanner that works and doesn't print shitty pictures.
though that also said ink delivery is a bit of a convenience I guess. It does have the option to buy ink to deliver to you when your printer runs dry. useful for some people but not for most.
Now they want you to sign up for accounts and create accounts with them and so on just to use the thing. even if it's free it's harvesting your personal info.
That said you Can still just download the independent driver. you just need to dig about a bit on their page and ignore their app
I kinda hate the trend of "App everything" too. Your phone just fills up with so many of them
Are you using the HP smart app to scan, using the offline driver or are you scanning directly into an image editor using the windows default driver?
in that case perhaps try scanning directly to a image processor like gimp, via acquire image instead. check if it's still black and white. if it isn't that means the issue is a driver. if it is means the printer may have hardware issue.
