So you’re a native Floridian too? What are the odds that I would find more of my kind on here. Glad that you survived Milton.
This was how Hurricane Milton was for me and my family here in Florida. I live about a 1 hour drive away from the Historic City of St. Augustine, Florida. And here’s what it was like for me.
Okay… at around 8:30pm when Milton made landfall. I had a power fluctuation.
9:27pm Second Power fluctuation.
12:43am Third Power fluctuation.
1:09am power was lost for a fraction of a second as it fluctuated. But at this time was when my Grandmother lost power at her house.
1:28am power fluctuated for a fifth time although I heard a very faint but still noticeable thud from what I thought was a tree fallen on the property(later turns out that wasn’t the case but it was a transformer that blew)
1:30am power fluctuated for a sixth time. Although it was at that moment I found that whenever the wind blew in from the North, the windows in my room would have water seeping in. Meaning that the sealant around the windows have failed so the old sealant needs to be removed and replaced with new sealant.
1:41am Power fluctuated for a seventh but it was at 1:42am was when I heard the familiar audible Boom of a Transformer Blowing that was quickly followed by an eighth Power fluctuation.
Then seven minutes later at 1:49am, west of my location I heard another Transformer blow leading to the ninth fluctuation.
2:13am wifi was lost with the tenth power fluctuation.
2:56am power fluctuated for the eleventh time as it was finally lost. Due to a Tree getting up rooted by the high winds which fell across and took down the power lines.
After that, I went to sleep and didn’t wake up until around 8am when our generator was turned on and we’re on it for 6 hours and 46 minutes when at 2:46pm power was back on. And that was due to the fact that we share the same grid as an Elementary School that is used as an Emergency Shelter for those with Special Needs.
So total time I was without power was almost 12 hours between losing it at 2:56am and the power company restoring it at 2:46pm.
My grandmother didn’t get power back until 2:28pm yesterday.
I’m just glad we made it through this Hurricane, now we’re in recovery and clean up mode.
