I've still got 8 years until I can think about that stuff. But, I'm guessing I'll be working at it for 10-15 years.

right now you have to wait until age 67 to get your full benefits, An then you get bonus benefits if you can wait until 70
you can't get medicare untill your 65.
My last employment came to an end in 2021 . . . and I've been out-of-work ever since. And as you know, I am the same age as you (turned 62 just yesterday).
Oh, I've applied to countless jobs over the past few years. Had endless interviews. Came oh-so-close more times than I care to relate. ("Just one final interview and you're in! ... Oh, too bad...")
In the end, the company always decides to go with a younger person. Resumes are worthless. Companies don't care about past experience. They aren't interested in references anymore.
The sad truth is that a young, fresh out of high school sap will work for minimum wage, sans benefits (Health insurance? What's that?) and can be easily conned into doing overtime without extra pay.
Of course it's illegal, but the corporations get away with it because a naive young greenhorn doesn't know when they're being taken.
