But one can say that for this, I will eat it with another fruit for a possible balance of sugar. However, there's the seeds... Let's watch what Matt would do for this....
In seeing that the cactus fruit is having lots of seeds, it will make me want to enjoy the bitter, but filled with antioxidants pommegranate more. Of course, if you do grow it yourself, you will have to have protection a plenty and pluck the thistles (thorns) off yourself, but know that you may still have that feeling of prickles in your hand even if you have absolutely removed every single one that is visible to your eye-there are still some tiny ones there! With time as the body does flush it out with its skin shedding or that it can dissolve, they are harmless. To think though, that you would get less fruit than usual when you cut the ends and peel the skin-they are a little bit thick. If it were that the skin pulp were as thin as an orange, I would like.
Yes, the seeds, they are hard, but if you do try to get the fruit off the seeds, it will be like the pommegranate- you won't get so much, but you can get a little more if lucky, but not much different. They are edible, but you will have to work your way to crunching on them.
The fruit taste, well, if you are looking for sweet, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. It would be perfect for diabetics that would want to have less sugar in their diet. I do not know about the glycemic index of a cactus fruit, but do look it up and discuss it with a nutritionist.
It is almost like a Mexican guava, but it is just a smidge better-at least there is a little taste, but it isn't enough to become quite memorable. It does have the ability to have the texture of a kiwi-I'll admit that with Matt, but oy, it has too much of the tasteless side. If you would be in the deserts, you would enjoy this, clearly. I would think too that if you do add sugar or possibly like a watermelon, add salt too, I think the taste will be MUCH better. For a pure one, not that much.
So with that in mind, here is the rating-I would say as low as a 3.8/6- oh yes, it would be on a grading system, a D! I will not have another. If it is that it has the behavior of a star fruit where if you do eat and it will damage your kidneys, I will avoid, definitely.
And in terms of rare fruits I have tasted, here's the standings- big number, the best one:
18: Cherimoya
17: Dragonfruit
16: Papaya
15: Passion fruit
14: Sapote (Mamey)
13: Rambutan
12: Tamarind (ripe)
11: Mangosteen
10: Durian
9: Korean melon
8: Lychee
7: Goldenberry (close to "MEH", but OK)

1: QUINCE (RAW, BUT NEVER TASTED) (BAD!)
Alfred after tasting this would feel forlorn after tasting this and would go ahead and eat, but wishes to throw it away. It is no doubt that since red pandas can taste aspartame and it is possible that they can taste other sugar substitutes, he will need a packet to sprinkle on this fruit every time he bites into one.
So if it is that you want something that would be a cousin like dragonfruit that is from a cactus but is watered down VERY HEAVILY BY NATURE, this would be the fruit for you, but for ones wanting sweet in fruit, this is not it-there's not enough in this one!
