The Future and Who we were.
I've been thinking about how to write this lately, but I feel pretty jaded with the state of the furry fandom. I've grown concerned with what the future holds for us. Things were so much different twenty years ago. All the shaming and regressive puritan mindsets weren't really a thing back in those days. We've been becoming more and more kink negative over time in a effort to sanitize ourselves. Though I suppose this change in mentality is not exclusive to this fandom.
Here on Furaffinity more and more lines are being drawn in the sand when it comes to content seemingly without end, less for understandable advertiser reasons and leaning more for moral reasons. It doesn't really feel like the safe space I found so long ago anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if Feral, BDSM or Non-consensual content ends up on the chopping block next.
When I jumped on board long ago, I jumped aboard because it was accepting of all and with my regressive christian upbringing it was a reprieve for me. I didn't feel judged or pressured here. I was allowed to be weird and explore where I stand sexually without any judgment. It offered me peace with myself and because of this I've stuck around for so long.
I really don't like this notion that Furaffinity is a "Minor Friendly Site" That I've seen the staff peddle around. It is a website of primarily fetish material. There are sites better suited for minors and it is absolutely not this one. We really shouldn't force it into that shape, it isn't going to work out for anyone and will only serve to actively fracture this site's community more.
I don't really know where we'll be in five or ten years more, But the moment we become clean enough to be capitalized on by big buisness I firmly believe that is when the soul of this fandom will die.
I believe that we should keep our fandom degenerate and unmarketable, but maybe this mentality is a dying breed. I don't intend on pulling out of the fandom, I can't really see myself parting with it after being along for the ride for this long. All I can really do is hope things stabilize again before we lose who we were completely.

I think that the community is being pushed out of the public gathering spaces online into more private parts, like Discord, especially when it involves the more niche parts that not everybody likes. It's sad that this threatens to break up the larger community into its separate components. I have the same hope that this might be reversed, but I feel like I have irrevocably lost my trust on the people who have brought these changes into the community.
I also have no clue where they got the idea that FA is somehow minor friendly, when even most of it's 'General' content is not something I'd be waving around in public. If they want to be the family-friendly furry site they've got a lot of work ahead of them and it's likely to drive away a lot of the artists here.
