The Election

Fuck.
I don't know if he'll be able to actually dismantle the electoral system, we'll find how shit bad it is. Best case he does just enough damage to his image that the midterms ruin his ability to do things.
Also hotdamn turnout this election sucked, 17m less people voted for Harris than for biden last time, and even trump had like 2m less. His people literally died to covid. I can assign failure of this campaign to many things, but it's multifaceted and not "just one thing". I do not know if the harris campaign would have won if she played all parts she did have control over better, it's that bad of a context.
One of the most brutal things you learn about engaging american politics is that the average american hates politics in that maintained ignorance way. Impossible to engage with.
I also see the "blame the progressives" machine spin up, not that I ever expected anything less. Machine Democrats will learn absolutely nothing from this.
OHWELL, time to draw furries...fuck.

Time for us to be strong, stand up, fight back, and take care of each other.
It's SO shortsighted. Like, you live next to one of the most gentrified areas in the world, and think that their policies won't make an impact in your daily lives. Sorry to rant a bit, but it's just disappointing.
its not THAT bad
plus sonic said not to kill yourself too
tbf the 16 years Merkel didn't really benefit Germany either, so there might be something to it, but still...
Maybe if we had a primary here there would have been time but the USA doesn't want to admit that it is white male supremacist and until we get over that hill and admit it we can't fix it.
I'll openly say, Trump could do anything but be a president and talk shit about socialism and communism. Really, are people really into what he says really?! I'm a bit worried of how it will turn out for countries that have a really huge influence from US. Specially countries like the ones in NATO, EU, etc.
So while a terrifying number of people voted for trump, it's probably like 1/3rd cult of personality (still too many) and 2/3rds idiots who have no idea what they are voting for.
I have no idea what the actual global impact is going to be, I know the USA has too much of an impact on that. the only brightside is that I see over all American hegemony definitely being damaged by this (Which is a good thing!) downside it'll be with societal collapse in our country. I do expect more belligerence from our government until the cost of this...fascist slide resolves.
Best case scenario is effectively he fucks up hard enough that the right wing government infights so hard effectively nothing happens for 4 years. I hate it.
Brace yourself... This one is gonna SUCK. Just know that I'll continue to have your back and support you, okay?
you said it exactly, about the average american hating politics, and the maintained ignorance. i got lucky i think and had teachers that involved me positively in it, which is why i care about how it goes. we just... maybe can only make goodness happen where we can. maybe.
plus, I feel like with the recent CEO shooting, people are getting to the tipping point that something needs to change.
As far as dems go, the most change that might come up is that the democratic party's leadership directly is up for a change up so maybe we won't get a useless guy who gets into social media fights. That'd help.
Society is certainly at a breaking point, that shooting is really just the opening bit. I have long maintained that the rich with their unreachable distance have no respect for when the desperate come for them. They are kept honest by being within arms reach and have spent far too long too far away. The ability to punch a guy is literally a release valve on people being scumbags.
So much of democrats make much more sense when you see it as careerist hacks who simply have no driving ideological project than maintaining their maligned career at all costs. A party that wanted to govern would not promote bipartisianship at all costs, would not promote the need for a "strong republican party" as if they'll do anything exciting without this totally rational oppositional force. (They also don't goddamn setup the next generation, they literally RUN PEOPLE UNTIL THEY DIE. Goddamn Dianne feinstein should have been a wakeup call!)
There is no democratic project that isn't already satisfied this days, they have nothing to run on except crumbs to give to the people who are getting uppity that things are a neoliberal hellscape. And then fascism fucking wins because they offer nothing and have no driving force. Republicans likewise have no project that isn't already satisfied because they are both neoliberal parties, it's just republicans give red meat to their base. Republicans maintain their power by stoking bigotry and making things continuously worse for the populace.
I hate it.
Brightside republicans are already primed to infight, their image of unity is not true so maybe they'll do jackshit for 2 years and in midterms will lose 90% of the control they have and we'll just have another miserable trump term where he can't do actually that much.
Gotta say, I hate being around for history, these interesting times are anxiety inducing.
