I've read Wright's books The Evolution of God and Why Buddhism is True and found both to be very enlightening. His speech here seems to indicate that while we are focused on the terrible now we're living in, the wider perspective will show that this is part of the swing of the pendulum, or push-me pull-you that makes up history. This is something we cannot see from where we are, and it will be interesting to see how today's times will be but a footnote in a future history book.

Wright does make some observations that are not obvious to use in our limited life length. But also he make this presentation in Feb 2006. I wonder what a 2024 presentation on the subject would look like.
I did see the year there, and yes, it would be interesting to see his views on the current situation.
