About Rui - Where're my dollars going?
In this day, it's more critical than ever to decide where we invest our money. For that reason, I would like to share with you all who I am as a person so that you are better equipped to decide if your money going to me is well-placed. This is succinct for the sake of brevity, but I intend to post more on a regular basis.
I go by the online alias of Rui, and my birth name is Christina. I'm fine being referred to by either name. I am a US citizen.
Here are my key values:
- I firmly believe people to be worth more than the income they bring in or are able to achieve. To this end I have spent thousands of dollars helping others, such as my fiancé, in their time of need. I do not expect or demand compensation.
- To the best of my ability, I prioritize people over money. This is why I have purchased adopts even though I have very limited income, offer significant discounts to good friends who share similar values to me, and regularly offer raffles.
- My main goal in many actions I take is betterment of society. I try to avoid spending with large corporations and instead purchase with local businesses. Not always possible as unfortunately the former is usually much cheaper, so I take this route when I can.
- I firmly believe in the saying "great leaders eat last". When I am given a position of power I do what I can to ensure I am putting forth the effort expected of the position and I often sacrifice my own priorities for the sake of helping others with theirs.
- I constantly seek to improve myself so I can make a better world. Like anyone else I fantasize about being dirty rich. I'm definitely no saint or monk who is impassive about money. But with the business ideas I currently have I can say the MAIN priority and goal for them is to help society and not to make a profit. For example:
> Creating alternative housing with cheap materials, meant as a temporary home which provides people with the necessities they need to survive and thrive and ultimately be able to afford better housing. The majority of savings made from the use of inexpensive materials are passed to the home owners.
> Renovating old buildings to increase the appeal and value of impoverished areas. What it would be renovated into is determined by what would be most helpful for the area.
> Creating a system to help people easily learn the various trades required in home construction and/or maintenance. Empowers more people to be able to take care of their own homes and creates a larger workforce capable of tackling our housing crisis.
I also want to start using my journal as a sort of blog to detail what I am currently learning/doing in my life, for the sake of transparency and accountability.
I hope this helps you determine if your money is going to a good place. Please feel free to ask me any questions or concerns! Thank you!

i don't think there's anything wrong with splurging or treating yourself. i encourage it, in fact! but the money you're spending on yourself should definitely be a reward for doing right by people and not a result of cutting corners and shortchanging or bullying.
