RIP Richard Bartrop

General
This is the part that sucks the most about getting old: I found out this morning that last night, Richard Bartrop passed away. Richard was a fellow artist, Canadian and greymuzzle, we'd met many years ago on FurryMuck where he was playing his character Melonny, and then re-encountered a bunch of years back where he was still playing Melonny, but now on SecondLife, where he was a mainstay of the H-Bomb crew, and we interacted almost daily on the associated Discord channels, playing off each other, tossing playful sketches back and forth. He'd been fighting an infection for the last few weeks, but seemed to be on the mend, we'd been chatting just before the weekend. Then the word came down from his online SO that someone went to check on him at his condo, and he was gone.
Richard was quite prominent in the early days of the fandom, well known for his cyberpunk comic "Zaibatsu Tears", its main character Pi, his buff space-wolves Vergeh and Lord Grey, and for myriad other projects and art pieces.
This is always really hard for me, losing fellow artist/creator friends, there is always so much going on, so many ideas and stories and creative silliness going back and forth, and then it all just...stops.
Goodbye old friend, you're leaving a big hole in the world, a lot of folks already deeply lamenting your loss. Hope you're having a grand chat with all the great old artists you so admired that got there before you.

Do cherish the time you had with them, the good and bad, and its going to get hard for you, just take your time to recover from it
May he rest in peace, amongst the greats.
His stuff was really iconic, and his art style was immediately recognizable. I never actually met him in person, but I never heard a single negative thing said about him, which is rare in any fandom.
My deepest condolences on the loss of your friend.
This was the man who provided the second largest set of commissions in my gallery (and for a while was the largest); I've known him for years, and got him to do illustrations and 'cover art' for several of my stories.
This does, indeed, suck. Especially since I was just talking to a friend about him just this weekend, so he was already front of mind.
I hope all his art and writing is protected in his will and he's got friends or family who will see to keeping it safe.
Christ, this year's been hard on the fandom.
But for the smiles and kindness and more so, the frendship he gave you and no doubt, so many others...
I hope Bast guides his soul to a peaceful reward with others that he may spend eternity making their immortal existence that much more pleasurable by his presense.
RIP, Mr. Bartrop, and farewell.
I'd fallen out of touch, and we never really got above acquaintance level. I'm sorry to hear.
The world loses yet another person who made it a slightly better place.
Rest in peace, Richard.
R.I.P.
We thank you for your art, your time that you had with us, and we hope Melonny lives on in fan art for years to come.
Yes, this getting old sucks.
I managed to meet him once in person when he travelled to Ottawa and I made damned sure we'd spend time together. A kind fun soul. A huge loss for the fandom.
I didn't know he played Melonny!! So I was talking to him recently without knowing, even... :(
If you cannot attend in SL, it will also be streamed over Picarto at https://picarto.tv/HBombLoungeTV
Melonny / Richard was here almost every night, and the music will be a collection of some of their favorites through the years.
I had talked to him recently and everything.
C'est les boules.
R.I.P. Richard Bartrop, God speed. And my condolences.
I found out from other channels before now. He's definitely one of those people who'd always been around in the fandom, so while I'm sorry he's gone, I'm really glad he was still around until recently as well.
