Questions for a Q&A on the comic site?

Hey folks, what it says up there!
I have been thinking on making a simple Q&A system for the website I run for the webcomic and lore, as of course a problem with the site is that It updates slowly, I am only one person working on the site after all. But also that, due to hosting data costs I can't really afford to go into deep detail on every facet of the whole setting! Frankly I would run out of data, especially since it may be the case that folks understandably wouldnt want to read so much. So to try and hit two birds with one stone I wanted to just see if anyone was interested in asking some questions
So if you have any questions about the Dragonscape feel free to ask!
Could be about the setting, or the comics, or just about more tertiary things. Really I am not sure if anyone will ask, but feel free to ask on anything! The plan is to take the questions and try and answer them on the site with some text and, if possible, some pictures. Probably a mix of drawings that I have on hand and doodles that I draw up as needed. I have also opened up a channel for the Discord server for more specific questions for the site so if anyone is on the discord you can use that too.
Or not! If its not a terribly productive thing it is fine by me, just wanted to experiment a bit with the site, anywho, be well!
Oh and if you want a question answered on the lore, comic, or whatever feel free to ask

Mas especificame los Ormer le creyeros a los drekir de que anteriomente era humano. O el Temas no salio.
⬆⬆⬆ would be the biggest question without answer, of course.
But besides that, and channeling my despicable ignorance of the setting...
How long do drekir live on average?
Can a drek survive in the wild outside of their family?
Could a human voice approximate drekir trills and yips?
What extra senses do dreks have to perceive the world with?
Do drekir see themselves as the dominant species in the world, or as chewtoys of Fate and larger things?
Will the world's timeline last long enough for a new modern humanity-like macrocivilization to be reestablished?
1) Drekir can live upwards of 115 years in the best case scenarios, though most throughout Dragonscape history tend to only live into their 80s due to illness and a lack of modern medicine, though there are the occasional old drekir who tough it out into their 120s!
2) probably! Do you mean a kid? If so yeah, there is such a thing as wild kids
3) No
4) Nothing too crazy! About the same senses as humans
5) I think that's a good blog post entry, I'll answer this one over there!
6) Also a good one for a blog post! I'll also answer this one over there!
If you are willing to do some hardcore reading, there is the lore site of course: https://thelonghikecomic.com/2024/0.....e-dragonscape/
Its also where im gonna answer questions (will make a journal here in due time)
the many facets of the Dragonscape world,
and also your private fears and hopes.
You are one sparking dynamo of an artist.
Thank humbly for answering some of the questions!
I meant them all for the blog, and didn't expect any direct replies,
so it was a giddily welcome treat, cheers!
The answer to Number 3, though... Brutal!
But I must applaud your authorial authority on that.
A less disciplined worldbuilder would have
just shrugged and explained that the dreks
do basically speak Interstellar English,
with the yipyaps just being there for flavor,
but you put your mighty foot down.
For Number 2, it's unexpectedly cool to know there are wild drek newts
surviving out there! My intention was to find out whether the land was
so inhospitable as to make it impossible for individual adults
to survive without their communal support system,
but your answer covered it nicely!
Thank you again for linking the lore section of your comic page!
I've been there and red some of the amazing things
you have invented and integrated with
all the other things you've also invented!
Flintknapping, Õndemification, various mana types...
A fun bit of trivia: your site seems to be inaccessible from Russia without a VPN!
Whatever your project has done to make the local firewalling authority
to blackout your site – cheers!
As for hardcore reading, it's sadly a big coffin nail in my skull, currently,
as I can't get myself to read large, involved projects and any text
lengthier than a social media post, and I've put on ice reading comics,
but I remember something from the better times!
About Number Four – I was mostly curious about how the drekir
felt out different kind of mana for their magic use,
and making sense of the resonance songs from the mana lakes.
But, given the nature of Dragonscape's Õndemic equalizing tendencies,
I guess all the comparative questions featuring human anatomy are moot,
seeing as any human in that reality would inevitably cease to be one.
And yeah! For the blog since I have to pay for the data hosting on Bluehost I do want to be a bit cautious, if I can quickly answer a question here I will still do so! The blogs are more for questions that need a bit more elaboration or are related to topics that are probably important to clarify.
It's about 300 bucks a year right now as it stands so I have to be cautious about too much data usage.
Yeah its just a case where we cannot make those sounds, I didn't intend for it to come off brutal so my apologies! It's just we (big monkeys) cannot do that alas. Would be cool if we could though!
I think wild drekir or "feral drekir" are kinda inevitable, drekir are not particularly good parents and while they do raise their kids a bit better than that sentence implies, there are no doubt eggs laid around that aren't broken, with the expectation that they would just never hatch in the open elements. Inevitably some of those eggs would hatch and those kids, while great at survival, would basically just be on their own entirely.
I think a feral drek would be a very rare phenomena, but one that is worth mentioning.
To elaborate on the lone hermit (which could be a good blog post, noting that for a more long form answer later) of an adult living entirely alone, I am sure it could be done! Though like humans it would likely be a very isolating existence, perhaps even more painfully so than with humans due to drekir and their den social psychology. Technically possible! Just probably a very sad state for most save a few.
Thanks! Perhaps its a bit sad to say, but the DragonScape is kinda what I put all my energy into right now, aside from family, friends, and having to not die, it's the most important thing out there for me aside from the obvious.
You know I find it funny that its inaccessible from Russia, as I often have to clear out tons of spam that is written in russian cyrillic scam bot posts, not sure why its always in cyrillic. Shame Russians can't get a hold of the site, not sure why that is, but if I figure out something I'll let you know!
As for hardcore reading it's all optional so no worries. If you don't want to read it right now it's not goin anywhere (I hope) and if you never get to reading it that's also all well and good. it's a lot of text about a very niche topic, there are probably more important things to read usually!
With that context on number 4 I think that's a good one for a blog post! Noted
Yeah its hard to discuss long term human settlement in a place that, as a habit, changes humans to another species
it is a gruesome indictment of the education system, the job market,
and just... everything. I look at you and a few people like you
on this site, and I see this age's Ursula Le Guins, Anne McCaffreys,
Terry Pratchetts, Robert Sheckleys, and I also see
the line in your future posthumous biographies,
reading, "had not found recognition during their lifetime."
I really hope that premonition will turn out to be rubbish.
But yeah, even combining your Working Juan job
with running the site, updating at your breakneck pace,
drawing all those maddeningly complex pages
full of landscapes, weird architecture and blasts of abstract arcana
and the warbling, chirping speechbubbles –
it seems impressive as all hell.
Thank your taking the employment crisis in stride,
even though it warranted a catastrophic breakdown!
I wish you had to work for the same wage
at the actual Amazon, ringing caimans
and giant otters and whatnot,
instead of greasing the cogs
of the Generic Cyberpunk Evil Megacorp.
You really deserve better.

Endlessly grateful for all the answers regarding the Dragonscape lore!
Can't spend a minute in your presence without getting illuminated in some way!
I remember when you shared your animated early story
featuring drekir communicating, you used some of the sounds
from Jurassic Park, and knowing that the people behind those effects
had to mix walrus bellows and whale song and all sorts of weird roars and hisses,
one would have to be a human lyrebird to be able to reproduce all that
without their larynx exploding.
And no apologies! I find such commitment to the internal laws and logic
of your world to be nothing but admirable and praiseworthy!
My curiosity about the lonesome survival has to do
with the level of reliance on technology and magic,
as well as the viciousness of the surrounding fauna
and elemental powers.
A person from an prehistoric community whose skills all align
with wilderness survival would be able to isolate themselves.
A modern person would have a much harder time with that,
unless they borrowed some of the modern tools in their exile.
A person living in an ever-shifting world of magic
that's also littered with postapocalyptic artefacts
would probably do fine, depending on
how capable they would be of exploiting those gifts.
And for the Russian users access problems,
the answer is simple: the current leadership
has been cutting off more and more foreign resources
under various pretenses, with the agency overseeing those bans
being granted a license to use their own discretion,
so anything that roughly fits the undesirable profile gets blocked.
FA, dA and a number of other furry-adjacent resources
have been added to that black list.
I'm just surprised your site caught their attention!
A vote of confidence and a mark of valor of sorts:
your site was acknowledged as being too spicy
by Eastern European fascists!
You must be doing something right.
Sorry about the Cyrillic spam! I haven't a clue
about what could they be trying to achieve
burying you in that stuff.
Maybe some day the job market will improve, or the economy will collapse which would present a lot of problems in drawing the comic.
As for Russia I am sorry about it, I know a few folks who live in Russia who have seen things just get so much worse over time. The Ukrainian war has sucked up thousands of lives who have been fed into an imperialistic pet project of a Russian fascist dictator, ruining Ukraine and killing who knows how many poor men on all sides and ruining the lives of millions more. I've heard of the economic strain both Ukrainians and Russians have undergone not just from sanctions, but from sending so many men into that meat grinder.
I just hope that whatever happens, the people of Ukraine can get their complete freedom and independence, and the people of Russia can find themselves a way to move on from such a horrible regime and get their own independence and freedom
We live in "Interesting times" unfortuenately. Be safe out there. It's a darker world than I would hope for
And as for the Russian language spam its no biggie, I just delete it when I see it! Easy enough to do, its mostly full of language I can't read and links that certainly lead to horrible virus filled sites.
I hope the rest of my message conveyed my dismay
over the whole thing. I get that it is devastating and insulting.
I only meant that I didn't cause you to dissolve
into a puddle of depressed goo, as it would have caused me to do.
On the foreign affairs front, you are admirably well-informed
and compassionate for the events so far away,
even if they are dire and capable of affecting
people the world over! Valsalia has also kept on
the Ukrainian charity link in their every post,
so thank you, dear weird worldbuilders,
for being a force for good!
The war has been eye-opening in the worst of ways:
it has shown that with the right authoritarian touch,
over a hundred million people in a country can just
shrug their shoulders or get offended
when asked if they feel responsible
for the atrocities being carried out
in their name; it has shown the Western powers
are only eager to get embroiled in a military conflict
if the other side doesn't have jets or tanks or missiles
or nukes or basically anything threatening;
and it has shown that multi-billion trade and supply deals
can still be happily chugging along between warring sides.
It is one thing to be critical of one's country,
but feeling that if anyone would start bombing it
back to stone age, they would probably be justified,
considering the sheer volume of war crimes
and domestic oppression we have committed –
it is disheartening. But it's just vibes –
it's the Ukrainians who suffer for real.
The fact that the supposed world policeman,
the U.S., is currently having its own struggle
against authoritarian right wing populist
who hates the free press and democracy
as much as any Eurasian dictator,
adds to the sense of doom and gloom,
so my heart goes out to you
and everyone else who'd have to endure
the four years of institutional earthquakes
and the worst of human nature bubbling
to the surface, burning everything it touches.
Here's hoping we can all sigh in relief around 2030!
Interesting times, indeed.
and no matter the comparative tininess of your issues,
they are still the most personally significant ones.
"Having to not die", and all that.
You're not in charge of ending all wars,
poverty and fixing the climate.
(I mean, I assume you aren't.
You're not with the Illuminati,
or anything? Because if you are,
have I got a list of complaints for you!)
Take care of your back and knees,
your wrists and eyes, your mind and soul!
