So I went to see Avatar today with
vincentwolfe ,
seanblackthorne and
]-[3l .
This is a movie that is definitely driven by effects. The plot takes a very definite back seat to the visuals but very close behind and kind of whispering in the ear telling it how to drive.
Mr. Cameron handled it very well. This was a plot that has been used time and time again. As you have heard correctly.. Dances with Wolves.. the Last Samurai.. just thankfully not including Tom Cruise.
Understand I wasn't very excited to go see this movie and one of the things I hate to say was making me a little bitter about seeing it were people were just going on and on and on about the visuals. I'm at a point in my life where visuals don't excite me. People getting excited about movies like Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children and other such films pisses me off to no end. It's like congratulating very beautifully executed stupidity.
I don't find this movie to be one of those that will stand out particularly, but time will tell how well it does. It's gotten to the point where oscars don't mean much outside of that year, (Remember that one movie? Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?)
So I don't feel this will be a movie that's a disappointment. it's most certainly a fun movie. But I wouldn't personally put it up there with one of those movies that will carve themselves in the annals of history for being the greats.

So from my previous entry I think it's important I bring this up.
One.. I'm sorry if I came across as bitchy and moany. I promise that there was a real message in there. In all honesty though I shouldn't write something like that when I'm both tired and irritated. I had someone constantly pick at me about an issue, which just sorta compounded over the evening which brought that up. Though I feel it's important so I'll keep it there until it becomes another one of those online embarassments ( much like a lot of my past entries on lj)
Though I think it's important that I expand upon this.
My problem was simply being talked to eye to eye. I've moved on from that silly juvenile state of mind where just because you talk to someone you are their friend. Though I do think it's necessary to be, at the very least, polite. If it's someone where it clicks, cool, I'll pursue a friendship, if it doesn't.. well then it doesn't and I go home and move on with the rest of my life.

vincentwolfe brought up something important which made me want to explore more of my definition of equality.
I do believe there are people that deserve special attention or do belong to special groups. If you perform, work, or whatever above and beyond, then you deserve above and beyond treatment or payment. Just as, in a paralleled form, a punishment for a crime will be befitting a crime. ( Like say petty theft won't be treated with the death sentence)
Everyone is born with the same opportunities regardless of financial position, ethnicity or location. You have the same capabilities of creating those opportunities as well as taking advantage of them. It is the choices we make and the opportunities we seize that will define us. Looking at someone eye to eye and understanding this very common, very true trait shouldn't be that much of a struggle though it is seems to be so.
I really hope that answered more questions than it raised.

And I don't believe you've been acting bitchy. But then, I don't think I've been around you enough to tell one way or the other :P
I can understand people who go see it and dont like it, thats fine, but to dislike it without even seeing it is silly.
now then.. *rose in mouth* where have you been all my life?
No matter what Fisk says it's not always the gospel truth. Not everyone is born with the same opportunities, that just bullshit. I've had those conversations with him. My life did not afford the same opportunities as maybe his life did. It'd be a fallacy to say it did and compare the two.
Would I be a better man, sure, we all could be better, but wishing never got anybody anywhere.
As for talk about everybody having equal opportunity, sorry I disagree. I've wanted to do 3D art professionally most of my adult life, but lack of money and living over 1000 from both the schools that offer such programs, and potential places of employment makes that all but impossible. I am entirely self-taught when it comes to 3D, and chances are, I will probably never have the opportunity to work professionally in 3D, an opportunity I might have had if I was born closer to the coast or if my parents were financially better off and could have afforded to send me out of state for college (as it stands, I could only afford state college and pretty much had to pay most of my expenses with student loans).
