Sometimes I like to look a pictures of furniture for reference when I need to fill out the background. Unsplash is the site I like to use:

And if not that, I just try looking on YouTube/Google to get more specific

and this might not be a popular take, but a friend of mine use an ai.generator program to try and generate random backgrounds as a sort of "foundation" or a baseline to build up a background, it's an interesting but unorthodox idea I thought it would be helpful

Well, the AI generator might be a great way to help me conceptualize the designs, but I'd still have to do the heavy lifting when it comes to consistently drawing the layout between scenes and view angles

I would suggest making a trip out to a more rural town, and taking pictures for reference material. But I do not know what your monetary budget and all is. Youtube and google searches can help, as can getting 3D tours of apartments and stuff on sites like zillow and rent and places like that.

Free time is more restrictive than money for me, but I was thinking more along the lines of 3d or virtual scenery so I can consistently draw or render the same scene accurately from different viewing angles.

Could learn some quick Blender to set up basic shapes for backgrounds.

Perhaps base it off of a real-world place, for ease of reference? Somewhere you could go and take a buttload of pictures, to have a really thorough layout of how stuff looks all around?

There's all sorts of models to use as reference for free on the clip studio marketplace! Very handy because you can just import them straight into your canvas.

yeah, I've been looking in there too. It's great for building a small scene like a home or classroom interior, but I also want something that can do something like a landscape

Yeah, that's what I did for the first comic for Mentally Charmed. It worked alright but I was restricted to whatever assets I could find for free.

Yeah, the free assets are pretty limited, unfortunately. I've tried to finds a way to import more models into it from other sources (tried to import the Warfaremachine Renamon model and it sorta works...) and it is both buggy and a massive pain but doable, if yer really desperate.

If it wasnt just about to end, I'd suggest the Clip Studio login bonus event they did where they give ya free points to buy some of the payed materials, since there is a good chunk of 3D materials with ok enough quality for the costs.
