THE CREW - Looking for character ideas!
Hello guys!
I hope you're having a great day!
For the past few weeks I've been working on The crew project which includes six nordic themed mercenaries relevant to Drakon's side story. Although they're not a part of the main story they still belong to the universe, so I'm planning their designs and roles carefully for future (mostly sketchy) nordic/viking themed art! So far I have 5 designs, including the chief and 4 of the crew members, but I'm missing one character and I can't decide on direction I want to go with them.
I'm looking for a character archetype and species that would work well with the rest of the party. I can't decide on either a small white fox or black tall wolf male (we already have 2 fems and I'd stick with that) but character's personality is still a blank canvas, with some rough ideas in my mind that don't make much sense when combined. I thought maybe you'd like to see a very specific character in the crew, or have an idea that would fit just right in! I'd love to hear your opinion on it in the comments, so feel free to share your ideas below! :)
Here you can find the full squad (Frida doesn't count, she's just there to cook!) https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....99573/THE-CREW
I also post a lot of rough sketches and share my ideas on my discord server for all my personal work, if you'd like to be a part of it here's the link for you! discord.gg/yHVBDyEXXZ

Depending on the personality you are looking for, I could see him being a bit of the "group dad" since he's looking out for them.
Somewhat crazy inventor type, crew is missing someone with terrible chaotic ideas, you can combine it with cook suggested above
As for the character type, I'd say this "group dad" concept that's been building sounds quite nice. I'm somewhat under the impression that Drakon's dad is the "leader" of the group, but I don't KNOW that, and even if he was, sometimes there's a difference between "leader" and "dad." ;D
However, given that you said Frida doesn't count due to her being in a "support role," I was wondering if you were more interested in this next character being more of an "action" member.
If you're looking for an idea that isn't primarily "support/utility," I'm wondering, after looking the crew over, if you'd be up for a "rogue" or at least "fast and nimble over brawn" type of fighter. Granted, Fjora may fit this somewhat, being a "brawler" or something like that, but this guy could be a little more of a dandy swashbuckler or something to contrast with the more "rugged" members.
There's also maybe having a "ranged" character, be it a bow or crossbow, or early firearms if you were up for that being a thing in your setting. If the ranged weapon was more mechanical, even if just a crossbow, this might allow for a bit of that "inventor/tinkerer" idea that Globusak mentioned.
And then of course, I was wondering if there was place for a "magic user" of some sort, be it a mage, cleric, druid, etc. (I can see an older magic-user also serving as the group dad as well, even if not in the utility sense that others have suggested). Obviously, not every adventuring party is required to have at least one rogue, archer, or mage; it's just a thought for contrast and support for the rest if they generally fight closer up.
And as much as I'm all for the wolf, I'd like to offer a basic "personality foundation" concept for the fox, if you decided to go with that in the end. If he's of a smaller stature than the rest, then I like to imagine him feeling like he has to frequently prove himself to the group as someone who isn't just some wimpy pipsqueak, or at the very least someone who relishes any and every opportunity to flex on the rest of the gang when he succeeds at something that maybe the others were struggling with. If he dealt the killing blow to the monster, he'd definitely puff his chest out a bit, even if in totally good humor. And I feel this could be an applicable starting point for his personality, no matter what his "character class" was.
Lol, sorry if I'm making it harder to decide! There's always so many possible choices for characters, and while there's definitely other parts to stories that I also care about a lot, coming up with character ideas is definitely something I like to do!
Even if my input doesn't help make your choices easier, I hope it at least helped in giving you some things to think about.
