~How I became a cat mom - October Drawing Challenge delayed!
a week ago
Hello guys~!
Kind of an unexpected journal explaining the events of the past week. In short, I've become a mom of a tiny, black kitten ^^;
Last sunday my mother called me because she saw a small kitten entering our front yard at late evening. Our dog was on the loose so she immediately rushed towards the intruder, caught it in her mouth and shook until it stopped moving. That little black thing didn't move for a while, but when our dog came home, it got on it's paws and moved to a neighbor house, just to com back to us eventually. It barely moved (even before dog's attack), it looked sick and malnourished. I told my mom to take it to the vet to at least put it down there, because I thought it would have many broken bones.
After a long visit at the clinic they did some tests on him which all came negative (which is good!) and it's a healthy cat boy. Even if I never planned on keeping a cat (I'm totally a dog person) and my apartment is really tiny, I had no other choice. All shelters and fundations (even the shelter I donate food to) don't take cats because they're full, so we'd have to abandon it or take it as our own.My parents couldn't take it because they already took another stray KITTEN from the same place two weeks ago. They didn't know if either has some deadly contagious diseases. Overall, the visit was very pricey, it was saturday and evening so the price was probably doubled - but the cat survived and looked pretty good after.
Why are there so many cats around my parents house - they live in a rural area and very close to their house there's a weekly open air marketplace - it's huuuge, and people sell livestock there (small animals like rabbits, chickens, geese, etc.) but it also includes little kittens and puppies - mostly from people who don't bother to sterilize their animals so they want to get rid of the babies somehow. Sometimes if they don't sell the babies they just throw them out in the forest nearby - I can assume they mostly die from predator attacks, hunger or now, freeze to death within the first two days.
My parent's kitten was found on tuesday evening in the bushes - it means it survived two days alone in the forest and was lucky enough to find them. That kitty was a little bit bigger than mine and the nights weren't as cold as now - mine was found sunday evening. If it entered another house he'd be dead - people keep their dogs loose at night, not talking about cars driving on the main road.
So, I ended up with a little (5-6 weeks old) kitten that I take care of - which includes waking up every 1,5-2h to feed it milk and warm wet food, playing with it, keeping it from dying (he climbs everything in my apartment and as I said I never planned on having a cat - so my place isn't ''cat proof''. He drains all my energy and barely lets me work - not even including drawing which I have no time or energy for.
It's a very difficult time for me, because I worry about October Drawing Challenge now - I hate breaking promises and not delivering art in time. But I have to delay some of the art, which I can physically do in the time I planned. I'll try to post new October sketches regularly - every 3 days, max 4 if the situation is bad, which means they should be all done in mid November. I really hope you understand >_<
About the cat himself - he's a smol boy named Gabi Sebastian (first name comes from the archangels' day the day we found him, the second one from my only male cat character named Sebastian. Fun fact: he's also all black!). He's very very energetic and looks very healthy now, so I hope he'll accomodate quickly. He needs a lot of attention from me so he sleeps on my lap or chest - otherwise he'll yell his throat out for half an hour before he finds himself a less comfortable sleeping spot. Since he's all black it's hard to take good pics of him - I also wear black clothes and my apartment is dark too because of rather small windows. But I'll try to show you his cute face - it's sooo tiny, with a tiny triangular, black nose, he looks like an anime
character :D
If you read all of it congrats <3 I hope you had a good read hahah. And I hope you have a good day today!

Glad to hear he's healthy.
I'll definitely fix him, I'm worried about the apartment because I only rent it and I know cat's markings can be very very smelly >_< At what age did you fix yours? I've heard it can be as early as 3-6 months old but I'll double check with my vet
what color are his eyes?
I've definitely been looking forward to seeing my concepts come to life in the next bit, but I would DEFINITELY rather have them end up coming out sometime in November or whenever, and looking as awesome as you can make them, than having them come out rushed or overly pressured given your current situation. In short, I totally understand, and will eagerly (but patiently!) wait to see what you do with your October/Autumn drawing run, be they my entries or whoever-else's!
Glad to hear that the little guy's pulling through! Best wishes to the both of you! <3
