How many people did you get to look?

A handful at the last furry get together at the PS. Only sold one pic for $20 in December. Hence why I didn't bother going today. Wish it could have gone better, but I'm a persona non grata these days.

Any progress with finding employment?

No permanent address, no means for hygiene, no chance at a job. Especially since I don't have a local id.

So… the end of the month is in four weeks, more or less, and you'll have been staying with Steve for more than three months by then. That's not great notice, but it's not unreasonable for what sounds like it was supposed to be a quick stop on your way to the Slab. It sounds like he's been a pretty understanding host, as these things go.

The start of the month means you should have a little bit of Patreon money coming soon, and that should at least cover a tank of gas and a meal or two!

No word on Olly, for all I know he's being deported to Ukraine. Didn't find the USB drive either. I can't make it at slab city, either.

Don't know why it seems I'm saying it isn't fair notice, a month is fair enough. Just my car is temperamental and I don't even know if I can drive from here to Garden Grove let alone back north before SoCal starts feeling like second hand heat from a kiln. I'm just keeping everyone updated who cares.

I wasn't making more than an incidental point about the notice; the key takeaway is that Steve will have given you more than three months to plan your next steps by then, and that you still have time to figure something out. The next question, then, is "what are you going to do with what you've been given?" What can you do right now to set yourself up to make life better or easier once you leave?

More importantly, what does your vision of self-sufficiency look like? How do we help you break this cycle?

Let me tell you, if I didn't care, if I weren't still holding out hope that you could turn your life around, I wouldn't be here at all. Let me know if you'd rather I didn't bother you; I've got better and more productive things to do than post into the void.

For what it's worth, I'm looking at the National Weather Service historical data, and it doesn't look like you have much to worry about. That SoCal picture-postcard weather holds up in Orange County for 50-ish weeks of the year, and once you factor in the humidity it's probably comparable-to-nicer than the Puget Sound.

In practical terms, what do you have to go back to? You have a very finite amount of money and income; even if your car were working perfectly, what are you buying for the gas it costs to get you there?
