The engine developed issues after going through Grants Pass, when a plug in the catalytic converter disappeared. Then it started hesitating and backfiring, up until Saturday when it started coughing and died. I'm guessing the spark plugs are fouled, but it's possibly worse.

Nope, though a cursory check with my ODB-II code reader (best $15 purchase I ever made, highly recommended for all post 2000 cars), I found multiple misfires and a cam error, which sounds like a timing issue. Steve's friend Joe might be able to work on it.

That sounds like a thing that can be fixed with some wrench time and maybe a one-day hoist rental. I hope it stays like that and doesn't need any expensive parts! Good luck to you and to Joe if he can make time to help you out.

I read about that! It was $40 or so, right? Personally I think that they should have hit Facebook a lot harder, but at least they were able to come through in time for your moment of need.

True, but $40 is $40. Usually when it comes to class action suits the payout is a few bucks or less.
