I truly believe social media has become the bane to human intelligence in the 21st century, and BlueSky leads the brainrot above all else.

It was pretty chill back when it was invite only. But holy fuck has it become absolutely exhausting and insufferable in the last year or so. X.x

LiveJournal was better, Myspace was better (kind of, before Rupert Murdock bought it and ruined it), Facebook was.... honestly NEVER any good...

Twitter sucked before but it sucks even worse now.

And Bsky used to be good when it was still in the "Invite Code" stages. Once the "Normies" and the "Puritans" and the usual argumentive types started trickling in it just ruined the general overall vibe of the place and it started falling right back into the same toxic cycle as Twitter fell into. It seems like Social Media killed not only tight knit forums with a specific angle and theme, but also person to person Chat Apps too. When you put so many different groups and subcultures together there's bound to be a clash. I miss the old days when Social Media wasn't the dominant way you socialized online. Back when everything had a FORUM, or some kind of specialized Mailing List. Remember "Yahoo Groups?" Those were neat! A combination of a Mailing List and an Image Gallery. And specialized forums were awesome! When you wanted a very niche type of content, you went to a Forum. A sort of Digital Bulletin Board.

I remember using Batsu and Fukkatsu for Japanese Rock fandom, and while even J-Rock had its own version of the Purity Police it was still a fun fandom to participate in.

I remember going to Zophar and RHDN for Emulation stuff. Those were the days!

But sadly those days are long gone. Twitter Clones and Facebook Clones are all that's left.

The internet has lost its "variety." It's too compact, too hegemonic, too congealed.

The internet from the early 2000s that I loved and felt excited by is totally gone.

There is no option of choice! It's like if suddenly every other independent soda brand disappeared and your only two options were Coke or Pepsi and BOTH OF THEM ARE PRACTICALLY THE SAME THING.... (RC is somewhat better, but that's probably just me).

The corporatization of the internet was a mistake.
And all the small little indie start up companies BECAME corporations!

And those Big Corporations just EAT & ABSORB everything else!

Pretty much. I still yearn for the older days of teh interwebz back when nearly everyone had a personal website. Even if the designs/etc were questionable, it still had such charm to it, you know? Nowadays it's just screencaps from 2-4 big social media sites.

Like, I have tried social media of varying types. It has never worked out for me. X.x It is always just more trouble than it's worth. I honestly miss the older days of forums. That stuff kicked fluffin' ass. X3

Exactly why I haven't made a bluesky. I've been on a Twitter break for a few months now & my mental health has improved.

Agree on the whole "internet being fun" thing; I find myself yearning for the AIM days :P

Also what's with people treating BlueSky like it's the new Beetlejuice? Saying things like "the skies are bluer" or just 🟦☁️

That explains why i haven't see you on there. Haven't been on there much considering i usually go through skyfeed.xyz discovery feed to find things on bluesky since the few good ones don't work anymore.

My social circles are rapidly shrinking cause of all the political bullshit. I'm down to a handful of Discord servers and Telegram channels that I'm still actively in. And that's because those groups are actually furry related, not a place for people with furry icons to just scream and rant about whoever is in the White House or what's happening in the Middle East.

Sounds like me & Fur The 'More. I was last there in 2018. While don't regret my time at that convention, I feel like that part of my life is just done and dusted.
