Just living life through a continued series of 'unprecedented times' and trying my best.
Plus, even put some family characters in for some of my OC's X3.
It's always nice to give an OC more context to their life through family/backstory, so that's fun!
As for where to start, I honestly think that most people start wrong. Like when I was a kid I was sent to music classes to try to learn piano or guitar, did french horn in band class in high school, and even as an adult I tried learning guitar by taking lessons again, but none of that ever worked for me. It was all just focused around the physical skill of poking the keys or plucking the strings or blowing farts into a curled up tube and it just felt so miserable to be doing nothing but going through the motions of repeating something that someone else (or hundreds of thousands of someone elses) had already done before.
What's been working for me this time is focusing very heavily on the theory side of things; learning how music is composed, how melody and harmony work, and so on. It's one of those "once you learn it, it's not all that mysterious" type of things but when you know nothing about it, it really does seem like witchcraft. I've also been diving into the sound design side of things, playing around with (virtual) analog synthesizers, which adds another spicy dimension. From there I'm just counting on my keyboard skill to take care of itself through "do it enough times and you'll learn".
