Vent on Furry Fox Stereotypes
So this is mostly a copy paste of a vent I just had with a friend. But in honesty it doesn’t like make me boiling mad when this stereotype is brought up, I just get slightly frustrated at it. Also don’t judge it too much, this is more or less a brief summary of multiple thoughts and it’s 2am and I just worked on midterm assignments literally nonstop the entire day and am a bit exhausted💀
Idk thought I’d share my thoughts, feel free to comment your own opinions lol.
Just browsing the meme group on Barq and saw yet another meme about the “fox stereotype” in the furry fandom. I’m assuming those reading this know what it is lol, but I mean if not, basically it’s that everyone with fox sona’s are the most sexual and slutty ones out of everyone in the fandom. And I hate that stereotype. Not just because I personally don’t think it’s even completely true (like statistically the majority of people in the fandom have fox sonas, so obviously they’re more likely to be *anything* as they are the majority), but because sometimes it’s almost “enforced”. Like everytime a meme like this comes up somewhere all the comments are just like everyone agree on that it’s true, and I never see any backlash or like even a “I’m not”. Even one of my used to be better friends occasionally would make (mostly teasingly but not completely) remarks on occasion basically encouraging me to fit into that stereotype since, well, obviously my sona is a fox. And I think it’s a stupid stereotype, like to my knowledge it’s not even based on actual real world fox physiology nor their depictions in most media and literature and mythologies outside of furry fandom stuff. And to me foxes are such an awesome species I don’t ever *want* to see or think about them in a compromising way in the first, and that a true fan of them would also have that kind of respect. That’s why “fox” and related fox characters are on my e6 black list :BIRDSKULLEMOJI: , I’ve literally never seen and purposefully stayed away from nsfw furry art containing foxes ever since I found out about the fandom lol. So to me foxes are almost like a “holy species”, one that I love and respect to much to bring down to such a stereotype. Also low-key agitates me because my sona, Foxy, is literally like trying to be and is a very upstanding moral character, fighting against his own demons (literal in the sense he has an evil creator that activity sabotages him) and fighting for others who can’t and to protect those from harm through his service (he’s essentially a robot cop, in the most basic simplest terms lol). And he doesn’t compromise on his morals and like is a genuine good character. Like does no one else have fox sonas like this 😭
So yeah, idk, thanks for spending your time reading this rant. I’d be curious if you all have strong opinions on this as well.
