- Skeleton crew : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_....._Skeleton_Crew
I'm a big fan of star wars (watched everything released expect Droids and read a lot of stuff) and a big fan of goonies (we had the VHS recorded from tv I watched it many many times), so I was really eager for a tv show that combined both. Visually it looks really great, the characters are really cool and interesting, with lots of nice character development (I wasn't able to resist buying the lego set with them in it, all but the pirate droid main characters and the Onyx Cynder) and such a really good world building as we are exploring a totally unknown part of the star wars universe. I'm really interested into discovering the story about all those treasures and such. 4.5 barks out of 5
- Fairy tail : 100 years quest (season 1) : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy.....00_Years_Quest
I was eager to watch the sequel to the famous series (I do read a lot of manga, but I wasn't interested to read this one, I feel it works better as an anime). It is a direct sequel as the characters are just one episode after the last episode of the previous series. It is also in the fact it is more of the same : same characters, same style, same stories... It is good but nothing memorable. I can't really find anything that doesn't feel like it's just more seasons of the same show. 3.5 barks out of 5
- Terminator zero : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_Zero
The terminator franchise has been going down so bad after the original trilogy and I haven't been excited for anything after those outside of the TV show that got killed early. So, an anime version of Terminator was an interesting concept to explore, and exploring they sure do. First, they do work on explaining how time travel as the movies shows it is a mistake from Skynet, as it create different timelines and not change the future (which make it so much better) and see how some of the world reacted outside of the USA to skynet's attack, from a really anime oriented science fiction story. It is really enjoyable if really different from usual Terminator stories. 3.25 barks out of 5
- Star trek section 31 : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_.....ek:_Section_31
I was really hopeful about this new format of content, called Long Trek, hoping it would explore some stuff that the series never got around. Sadly, this first one is a total misfire. It start good but quickly goes into a copy of suicide squad and it stop working. The characters are flat, one note, and the acting and story is sub par. There is some good ideas here and so many references, showing it was clearly done by fans who cared about the universe, but it is just... so boring... so underwhelming... and they totally ignore some points like that the main character is a genocidal tyrant... 2 barks out of 5
- Arcane (season 2) : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcane_(TV_series)
Continuing the story from the previous season, it seems the characters are getting closer to the game (as far as i understand, never played League of Legends and since I hate PVP I will never do), the story starts to get really really bonkers. It was really hard to follow some of the plot points but the general story, scenes and character development is really great. I guess the convoluted story is a reference to the game as it get really confusing at times. It is still super impressive visually. Really great to check out. 4 barks out of 5
- Jentry Chau vs the Underworld : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jentr.....The_Underworld
A really surprising tv show about Asiatic culture, exploring the underworld from their culture and the mystic related to it in a really interesting super hero show. As I never explored such culture from my grandmother, as I was quite eager to learn more about it, even in such a show. I was stunned about how well written is the show, exploring super heroes and teenagers in a way I had never seen before. It is colourful, well written, really original with lots of depths. The struggles of all the characters feel real and deep. There is also so much left to explore for a second season. 4.25 barks out of 5
- Boonboomger : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakua.....ai_Boonboomger
Boonboom being a reference to boonboon, the Japanese vroomvroom and the explosion, the tire sentai deliver on both. The tire motif is not great, I disliked how they looked, but the story and characters were compelling. It is not a dark Super Sentai show but it is still serious when it want to be, and don't go too silly either (not like the next one is shaping to be). That works overall, creating an entertaining story with characters who have pretty good story arcs. 3.75 barks out of 5
- Friendly neighboorhood spiderman : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Your_.....ood_Spider-Man
So, this series is based on the MCU : the characters and events of those films series happens in nearly identical as they do in this universe, with one change : Spiderman never go to the school he does in the MCU, meaning he never joins the Avengers and he has allies and bad guys totally different as a result. That different takes means we get really different cast of heroes and bad guys, some that I really don't know and others I know but are a really different take on them. It is refreshing, really well written (even If I called the last episode twist from the first episode) and quite beautiful. I really look forward to see where they are going, 10 episodes is pretty short. 4.25 barks out of 5
- NCIS : Origins https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCIS:_Origins
I have been watching all the NCIS series (sorry, can't get into JAG) and so I tackled on this one, even if after the first episode I wasn't that sold on it. Love the 80's retro style and references, which differs so much of current procedurals, but the main character is rather bland at times and too much in his PTSD in others. I know it is the point of the character at this time in his story, but at moment it can get annoying. It get better and is still interesting, but it is so far the weakest NCIS show. 3 barks out of 5
- Lego Monkie Kid (seasons 1 to 5) : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Monkie_Kid
So, I know the basics of the Journey to the West from anime and mangas, but not really any depth. This show sure has gone further with it that anything I have ever assimilated before, which is really nice because it surprised me with the references. While the lego aspect at some moment is a bit forced with all the vehicles and mechs that go around, the characters, stories and all the jokes really worked for me. I have gone through all seasons as soon as I could and look forward toward season 6 if it ever happens (it is hinted at the end of 5 but I haven't found any confirmation of a 6th season). There is a lot of world building but also overarching arcs over multiple seasons which I do enjoy quite a bit. 4 barks out of 5
