Dress-up can be a complicated hobby...

The last time I posted a journal here, it was about pausing my crafting experiments until it got warm enough to open a window to use things that need ventilation.
It's warm enough, and I did some experiments, and it turned out the crafting ideas I had aren't going to work.
I thought that I could carve polyurethane foam, then layer some felt over that to smooth it, then use spandex as the outer layer over the smooth felt. It turns out that strategy doesn't work with the tools I have! Imperfections in the carving and the felt upholstering show through the spandex layer, and the result won't work for the skunk parts I was thinking of making. It would work fine for a more conventional fursuit fabric, but not the zentai-inspired look I'm trying for.
I'm not sure yet what my next moves will be. I might make some less ambitious dress-up clothes next to get my confidence back up. Maybe I'll find something to inspire me at a fabric store going-out-of-business sale this week.
