Farewell, fistula!

Hey-hey, just another quick update in regards to my health situation here!
So in my last journal, I mentioned that my doctor determined that my abscess had turned into a full-on fistula, and I'd likely need surgery for it.
Well, in the time between then and now, a LOT has happened. My brother entered a manic cycle, had to deal with that for all of February till he was finally hospitalized for a week. He's doing alright now, just anxiety issues, and new meds, etc. Last month on the 27th, I had my surgical assessment from the surgeon my doctor recommended, got checked out, and the choices were to either do antibiotics, or just get the surgery straight-up.
As you can imagine from the journal title here, I chose the latter! Because I did not want to deal with the prospect of having to suppress the damn thing for months at a time, then have it pop back up like an unwanted zit, or pimple, etc. So.. Yeah. Had my pre-op exam last week on the 17th, and finally today, the surgery itself.
And it couldn't have turned out any better. Surgeon was able to completely remove the entirety of the fistula, no major complications, nothing! I was out like a light from anesthesia, and they did their due diligence. Arrived at the hospital around 7:30 this morning. And it was well after noon by the time I was discharged from the hospital to go home. Pretty much got back around quarter to 2, and I've just been taking it easy.
Long and short of it? I'm okay, I'm just gonna be in recovery for a few weeks. Gotta put padding in my boxers to make sure there's no extra drainage, apply ointment to my wound, clean it with water after bowel movements, etc. And irrigate it twice a day with a peri bottle or shower sprayer.
But once all's said and done, and once I have my follow-up next month with my surgeon, I should pretty much be back to normal. And goodbye to jamming toilet paper between my legs. EASILY the most annoying part of this 3-month struggle!
